Frank’s visit to Jerusalem in 1999 inspired her to produce the first painting in the series and to visualize the creation of other works representing additional cities that have survived strife. The series directs action through hopeful energy by celebrating the best of the human spirit, transforming anguish into beauty. Cities of Peace was produced at the Illumination Atelier in East Hampton, New York, by interns from China, Korea, Colombia, Estonia, Japan, Poland, Hong Kong, Canada, and the United States, under the artistic direction of Ellen Frank. Works devoted to Monrovia, Sarajevo, Hanoi, Dresden, Beirut, Seoul, Warsaw, and other cities will continue the project. This exhibition marks the debut of work by the Illumination Atelier. After they dock in Sausalito, Michael goes along with Grisby's weird plan to fake his (Grisby's) murder so he can disappear untailed. He wants the $5000 Grisby has offered, so he can run off with Rosalie. But Grisby turns up actually murdered, and Michael gets blamed for it. Somebody set him up, but it is not clear who or how. He arrives at the invitation of an exschool friend, Harry Lime, who has offered him a job, only to discover that Lime has recently died in a peculiar traffic accident. From talking to Lime's friends and associates Martins soon notices that some of the stories are inconsistent, and determines to discover what really happened to Harry Lime. He arrived in America in 1936, schooled in the old world academic tradition of his native Spain and fresh from a sojourn in the heady milieu of 1920s Paris; yet his openness to new influences and to new friendships, including those with artists Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko, assured his crucial role in the evolution of Abstract-Expressionist discourse in 1940s and 50s New York. Vicente and his wife Harriet first came to the East End of Long Island in 1963 and the next year bought an old farmhouse on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, where they lived for nearly forty years. The barn in the rear of the property became his studio while the surrounding garden he and his wife cultivated over the years provided a vital connection to the natural world.

He arrived in America in 1936, schooled in the old world academic tradition of his native Spain and fresh from a sojourn in the heady milieu of 1920s Paris; yet his openness to new influences and to new friendships, including those with artists Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko, assured his crucial role in the evolution of Abstract-Expressionist discourse in 1940s and 50s New York. Vicente and his wife Harriet first came to the East End of Long Island in 1963 and the next year bought an old farmhouse on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, where they lived for nearly forty years. The barn in the rear of the property became his studio while the surrounding garden he and his wife cultivated over the years provided a vital connection to the natural world.

Vicente and his wife Harriet first came to the East End of Long Island in 1963 and the next year bought an old farmhouse on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, where they lived for nearly forty years. The barn in the rear of the property became his studio while the surrounding garden he and his wife cultivated over the years provided a vital connection to the natural world. MUSIC AT THE TALKHOUSE The Stephen Talkhouse, 161 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930, 631.267.3117 Joan Osborne, 8pm, $65 Singer Joan Osborne was born on July 8, 1963, in the town of Anchorage, KY, but it wasn't until relocating to New York City in the early '90s (to study at N.Y.U.'s film school) that she began to take a singing career seriously after singing Billie Holiday's classic "God Bless the Child" at a local bar's "open mic night." In addition to Holiday, Osborne looked to such legendary vocalists as Etta James and Ray Charles as role models, as the up-and-coming singer decided not to cater to major record companies and formed her own label, Womanly Hips, which resulted in such releases as 1992's in-concert Soul Show, among others. But eventually, Osborne decided to sign on with a major label, Mercury, which in turn issued the singer's next release, Relish, in March of 1995. The album proved to have a long life, as almost a year after its initial release the track "One of Us" became a massive MTV and radio smash, camping out at the number one spot on the U.S. singles chart for two weeks and Relish eventually racked up sales of three million copies. Further tracks ("Right Hand Man" and "St. Teresa") failed to match the success of Osborne's first hit, but the singer still managed to connect with a large and appreciative audience, especially during touring as part of the 1997 edition of Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair tour. Osborne also received numerous Grammy nominations in both 1996 and 1997. Lone Sharks, 10pm, $10 The Lone Sharks' first public performance was in the summer of 1988 at Burke's Roadhouse, North Sea, Southampton, NY, with GENE CASEY, singer and guitarist out of NY's latter-day punk/ new wave scene, college chum PHIL GIULIANO on guitar, DAVE DRISCOLL (Phil's then brother-in-law) on drums, and rock vet (and ex-and-current Bongos member) ROB NORRIS on electric bass. Immediately afterwards Gene's brother VINCENT CASEY took on bass duties and lent his vocal prowess and casual genius to the proceedings. The Lone Sharks quickly gained a foothold in the late 80s Hamptons music scene, when bars and bands were plentiful and audiences loyal and robust. She grew up in a literary family. Her father is renowned author E.L. Doctorow. Her mother, also a writer, is from North Carolina. When she was a child both of her parents played folk music as a hobby. Caroline quickly became enamored of the folk stars that she met through her family, such as Pete Seeger, Judy Collins, Mimi Fariña and Joan Baez, whom she counts as a significant influence. As a teenager, Caroline would travel the Greyhound bus line up and down the east coast going to, and performing in, many folk festivals. She attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, mostly playing music and not going to classes very often. All the years of hard work are now beginning to pay off and is especially evident in her songwriting.

The brainchild of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Craig Schoenbaum has been a project in the making as far back as 2000, but the line up you see before you wasn't solidified until the summer of 2009. The band’s influences range from legends such as Ray Charles, Otis Redding and The Meters, to The Police, The Black Crowes and Sublime. Hip Hop has even played a role in shaping OTiS’ sound in groups like A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde. This diverse makeup is obvious the second you try to pin down their sound to tell a friend. unday day,, March 20th Sun day MONTAUK FRIENDS OF ERIN St. Patrick's Day Parade Montauk 12:30 pm The 49th annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Montauk is hosted by the Montauk Friends of Erin and is being held on the Sunday after the actual holiday. If the parade were held on St. Patrick's Day, it would be subdued as most of the yearly participants are otherwise engaged marching in other parades. And everyone knows Montauk's parade is anything but subdued. In fact, you never know what might happen. A few years ago a Brookhaven woman in a hot tub float flashed her bare breasts to the judges! (punishable by 15 days in jail, a fine, or both). This year 32 floats, 15 marching bands, 14 fire departments, and six color guards are expected to participate. Starting at 12:30 pm Sunday, the parade will step off at the Montauk Firehouse, head south on Edgemere Road, then turn east and pass the Montauk Post Office before beginning its westward descent down Main Street. It concludes at the Montauk I.G.A. about two hours after it starts. On Sunday the excitement starts to build early in the day. Main Street will be roped off and spectators will start lining up early to get a good spot. A viewing stand for visiting dignitaries will be set up on the green. Meanwhile, across the street, in front of the Chamber of Commerce building, steaming hot vats of clam chowder donated by local restaurants will be sold by Chamber members, who will pick up their ladles at noon and put them down only when the soup is sold out. A caravan of cars can always be seen heading into town before the parade begins. Local restaurants and motels do a brisk business throughout the weekend, and many are reopening with that in mind. East Hampton Town police officers will work overtime enforcing the law, particularly the one prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in public places. And maybe the sun will shine! Ripper of Burpelson Air Force Base, he believing that fluoridation of the American water supply is a Soviet plot to poison the U.S. populace, is able to deploy through a back door mechanism a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union without the knowledge of his superiors, including the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Buck Turgidson, and President Merkin Muffley. Only Ripper knows the code to recall the B-52 bombers and he has shut down communication in and out of Burpelson as a measure to protect this attack. Ripper's executive officer, RAF Group Captain Lionel Mandrake (on exchange from Britain), who is being held at Burpelson by Ripper, believes he knows the recall codes if he can only get a message to the outside world. Meanwhile at the Pentagon War Room, key persons including Muffley, Turgidson and nuclear scientist and adviser, a former Nazi named Dr. Strangelove, are discussing measures to stop the attack or mitigate its blow-up into an all out nuclear war with the Soviets. Against Turgidson's wishes, Muffley brings Soviet Ambassador Alexi de Sadesky into the War Room, and get his boss, Soviet Premier Dimitri Kisov, on the hot line to inform him of what's going on. The Americans in the War Room are dismayed to learn that the Soviets have a yet as unannounced Doomsday Device to detonate if any of their key targets are hit. As Ripper, Mandrake and those in the War Room try and work the situation to their end goal, Major T.J. Esteban Vicente: Portrait of the Artist Exhibition, February 6–April 10, 2011 Esteban Vicente’s death in 2001 at the age of 97 marked the passing of one of the last surviving members of the first generation of New York School painters. He arrived in America in 1936, schooled in the old world academic tradition of his native Spain and fresh from a sojourn in the heady milieu of 1920s Paris; yet his openness to new influences and to new friendships, including those with artists Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko, assured his crucial role in the evolution of Abstract-Expressionist discourse in 1940s and 50s New York. Vicente and his wife Harriet first came to the East End of Long Island in 1963 and the next year bought an old farmhouse on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, where they lived for nearly forty years. The barn in the rear of the property became his studio while the surrounding garden he and his wife cultivated over the years provided a vital cconnection onnection to the natural world.
