structure + investigation project: The object was to construct a double cantilever structure, out of solid square mild steel sections, that would have the highest possible strength to weight ratio when loaded evenly from both side. To test its effectiveness the structure was put in a device that gradually put stress on it until it failed. This experiment was conducted three times, after each one, a detail analysis was done to assess the weakness and strenght of the structure in order to improved the efficency of the subequent model. test 1: The structure failed due to the bending of the cantilevered arms under compression forces test 2: The cantilevered arms were strengthen by using a diamond shaped structure that resisted bending in the arms considerably. However, the failure was at the tip of the right arm. test 3: The structure was lightened and refined using triangulation of the trusses. It again failed at the same point. This maybe as a result of the unequal loading or inconsistences in construction.
