The 469th Transportation Detachment (Joint High Speed Vessel) is currently being realigned to provide worldwide Army watercraft logistics support to combatant commanders.
53rd TRANSPORTATION BATTALION (Movement Control) The 53rd Transportation Battalion’s (Movement Control) mission is to provide movement control services to a theater of operations. It commands, controls and supervises multiple movement control teams that operate at key transportation and distribution nodes such as seaports, aerial ports, rail and inland terminals, as well as regulating main supply routes. The battalion also provides in-transit and asset visibility of sustainment and surface deployment and redeployment of units within the theater of operation. The Battalion’s motto is “Siegesrader,” which means “Victory Wheels.” The Battalion received its motto many years ago as a truck battalion during its service and participation in World War II. The 53rd Transportation Battalion (Movement Control) coordinates with other movement control agencies, host nations, transportation mode operators and units, and assists in the planning and executing plans for reception, staging, onward movement and retrograde of personnel, equipment and sustainment. This includes actions associated with marshaling staging areas; monitors, manages and executes the theater’s movement and port clearance programs; monitors the use of trailers, containers and flat racks and coordinates their return to the theater transportation system; applies and meets the theater commanders’ movement priorities; and balances transportation assets with requirements according to directed priorities. The 53rd Transportation Battalion (Movement Control) more recently returned to the U.S. in April 2009 from Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Previous to this assignment, the Battalion was in Kuwait supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Department of Defense non-discretionary move, the Army restationed the battalion from Fort McPherson, Ga., to Fort Eustis, Va., in May 2007 and assigned it to the 7th Sustainment Brigade.
7th SPECIAL TROOPS BATTALION The 7th Special Troops Battalion provides battalionlevel command and control of Soldiers assigned to 7th Sustainment Brigade Headquarters as well as FORSCOM units administratively assigned to the 7th Sust. Bde. The 7th STB was activated in October 2006 as part of the transformation of the 7th Transportation Group to the 7th Sust. Bde. Under the new structure, the 7th STB is the only subordinate battalion organic to the 7th Sust. Bde. and is designed as a multifunctional battalion. It has two organic companies within its structure: the Headquarters and Headquarters Company and
the 7th Signal Company. It also has the additional companies and detachments needed for a theater opening mission: the 510th Human Resources Company, the 382nd Theater Opening Element, and the 52nd Theater Gateway Element. These elements together give the 7th STB a unique capability not found in other sustainment brigades. The Headquarters and Headquarters Company transformed in October 2006 as well, almost doubling in size. HHC’s mission is to provide company-level command and control for Soldiers assigned to the brigade and battalion headquarters. Further, the Headquarters Company contains a medical section and a maintenance section capable of providing internal support. The 7th Signal Company was activated in October 2006, and brings state-of-the-art Joint Node Networking satellite communications capability to the brigade headquarters. Its mission is to provide communications between the brigade headquarters, a higher Expeditionary Sustainment Command or Theater Sustainment Command, and the 7th Sust. Bde.’s customers: multiple brigade combat teams. The 510th Human Resources Company is a FORSCOM asset, but receives administrative support from the 7th STB and the 7th Sust. Bde. The 510th contains small teams that control personnel movement. The teams are of two types: R5 teams (Rest, Recuperation, Return to Duty, Reception and Replacement Teams) and CLT (Casualty Liaison Teams). The mission of the 510th Human Resources Company is to support theater operations by tracking personnel flow in and out of theater nodes. The 382nd Theater Opening Element is a FORSCOM asset but receives administrative support from the 7th STB and the 7th Sust. Bde. The 382nd TOE deploys to provide theaterlevel logistics planning as combat forces develop and open a theater of operations. In a mature theater, the 382nd deploys to augment a sustainment brigade, which is responsible for theater transportation missions. The 52nd Theater Gateway Element is a FORSCOM asset but receives administrative support from the 7th STB and the 7th Sust. Bde. The 52nd TGE deploys to support theater operations by tracking personnel entering and leaving the theater of operations. The actions of the 52nd TGE cause combat pay and benefits to start and stop and starts the all important ‘boots on ground’ time for individual Soldiers.
8th Transportation Brigade The 8th Transportation Brigade consists of the 71st Transportation Battalion and provides administrative control over several satellite commands including the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, U.S. Army School of Music, Mid-Atlantic District Veterinary Command and Army personnel assigned to the Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity totaling
