ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT OFFICE Building 6005 825 19th Street Phone: (804) 734-5014 Fax: (804) 734-3762 The proximity of the installation to nearby waterways presents many environmental challenges. Fort Lee is geographically located in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and must adhere to all the guidelines of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act of 1988. Furthermore, within the 5,645-acre footprint of Fort Lee lies almost 745 acres of wetlands – almost 13 percent of its land mass. Preserving the rich history of this region is also a focal point for the EMO and it conducts many programs throughout the year to ensure positive environmental stewardship practices are applied throughout the community while maximizing training opportunities for the military. REGIONAL ARCHEOLOGICAL CURATION FACILITY Building 5222 Corner of Shop Road and 22nd Street Phone: (804) 734-4434-4436 or 765-7026 Fax: (804) 734-3762 The Regional Archeological Curation Facility houses Fort Lee’s archeological collections as well as those from other Department of Defense installations. Visitors are always welcome. AIR QUALITY Phone: (804) 734-5061 Significant regulatory constraints pertaining to Air Quality exist at Fort Lee. The installation will continue to reduce its potential emissions impact on the regional air shed where practicable and in a manner that maximizes operational flexibility for Fort Lee’s training mission. Reducing the environmental impact of Fort Lee is everyone’s responsibility; whether it is substituting a green product, recycling, preventing spills and releases or receiving the proper clearance to dig a fighting position. We face many short and long term challenges that require innovative, effective and efficient execution of the environmental mission while sustaining real world training for our military members.
