ACCELERATING THE UK’S TRANSITION TO SUSTAINABILITY
Organic waste management solutions and renewable energy production
Who are Severn Trent Green Power? Sustainable solutions
UK’s largest generator
Driving carbon reduction
Experts in Food Waste Recycling
As part of the Severn Trent Plc family of businesses, we run a high-quality portfolio of assets and facilities that both generate renewable energy and also provide valuable recycling services for our Local Authority and commercial customers.
In 2020 we exported around 260GWh of renewable energy in the form of electricity and gas to grid. Indeed from our AD activities we are the largest producer of renewable energy from food waste in the UK; enough to power 80,000 homes.
Severn Trent is fully committed to reducing the carbon impact of its operations and has signed up to a triple carbon pledge by 2030 to:
We are one of the largest and most efficient food waste recyclers in the country. A quarter of all UK household’s collected food waste, and around 12.5% of commercial collected food waste is sent to our AD facilities.
To achieve this we operate 8 food waste Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facilities, 5 garden waste composting sites, 33 solar parks, 6 wind turbines and 5 hydroelectric turbines across the West and East Midlands, Oxfordshire, Wales and London.
We care deeply about making a positive impact on our environment and strive to support our customers to achieve the same.
WE RECYCLE ½ MILLION TONNES OF MIXED ORGANICS EACH YEAR
• have zero carbon emissions • use 100% renewable energy • have an all electric fleet of vehicles. This commitment benefits both our customers and the environment. A tonne of food waste processed in one our AD facilities captures 0.5t of carbon, and produces both biogas for green energy and a biofertiliser to enrich our soils. Truly, the circular economy in action!
OUR AD’S PRODUCE 58MW OF GREEN ENERGY
Managing this waste stream accounts for around 75% of Green Power’s business and we have over 200 customers from across the UK delivering a wide variety of feedstocks, be they from households, retail, catering or food manufacturing.
