RENEE GALLOWAY, PhD
CAROL LYNN GREER
As an academic innovator, consultant, life coach, author and entrepreneur, Renée Galloway, PhD, demonstrates there is more than one way to bake a cake. Galloway is not only the co-founder of the University of Pittsburgh’s Alliance of Urban Scholars, which provides educational support for doctoral students within the School of Education, she is also the author of “Done! Prioritize, Plan and Perform to Accomplish Your Goals,” and a Supplier Diversity and Supply Chain professional, who serves on the board of the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council, and as co-chair of the certification committee and membership director for the Institute for Supply Management-Pittsburgh. Then there’s that cake—Galloway also owns Sweet Inspirations, LLC. which offers an assortment of sweets and baked goods, including her signature pound cake. Through all her endeavors, she is ardent about assisting individuals and groups to achieve and maintain solid, personal and professional growth. Through her training and development programs, she endeavors to empower others to pursue their goals and dreams while embracing tools and principles to make positive change a way of life. Galloway holds an undergraduate degree from Robert Morris University, a master’s degree from Point Park University and a doctoral degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Carol Lynn Greer takes pride in her career as a human resources professional, and she should. Not only did she rise from the position of Human Resource (HR) manager to director at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, she also did so at the Allegheny County Housing Authority, and now directs all the HR functions for both agencies. In addition to the Housing Authority and Zoo, Greer has managed HR duties for various nonprofits and companies in the manufacturing and healthcare fields over the course of her 30-year career. She is also active in professional organizations, including the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Society for Human Resources Management and the Pittsburgh Association for Human Resources Professionals. Greer earned her bachelor’s degree at Clarion State University and her master’s degree from St. Francis University. Though her position requires her to supervise all areas of HR, including recruitment, hiring and benefits, Greer says employee and labor relations are the specialties she enjoys most because working through issues and coming up with solutions that work to the benefit of the organization and employees are especially gratifying. She also gets gratification as a league bowler and Texas hold ‘em poker player—having once made a tournament final table. When she can, she hones her poker skills by vacationing with her husband, Charles, in Aruba and Las Vegas. Greer is the proud mother of William McGhee and Brittany McGhee, and stepmother to Charles, Ashley and Olivia, and a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.

COMMUNITY SERVICE RONELL GUY
Executive Director Northside Coalition for Fair Housing Anyone looking to learn about Black community activism and affordable housing advocacy in Pittsburgh need look no further than Ronell Guy. Before she teamed with the Service Employees International Union and Unite Here Union to create Pittsburgh United, and began the battle to keep North Side renters in their homes as executive director of the Northside Coalition for Fair Housing, Guy served families and communities as a social worker. With Pittsburgh United she helped secure the first community benefits agreement in Pittsburgh and successfully aided in having prevailing wage legislation passed in the city. In 1998, she started what would later be called the Northside Coalition for Fair Housing with an all-volunteer staff. Today, the Coalition counts assets of more than $10 million and has a staff of 10. In addition to her tireless work on behalf of low-income individuals, families and communities, Guy is also deeply involved in the fight to end violence in the Black community. In 2000, she organized the first Women’s Walk For Peace, which has grown every year and included more than 5,000 walkers from across the city and beyond. She hopes to leave a legacy of creating equitable communities where everyone is encouraged to participate and prosper. Guy and her husband, Ronnie, live in Perry Hilltop and are the proud parents of two children and one grandchild.
