THE MICHIGAN CHRONICLE
December 10-16, 2014 Page D-3
The spirit of giving It is common for charitable organizations to publish wish lists at the end of the year. However, these lists are yearround, and Franklin Wright Settlements has been meeting the needs of and granting those wishes to thousands of men, women, children, seniors and families for over 133 years in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. Have you ever wondered where the funds come from to support the many programs at Franklin Wright? Programs such as the After School Enrichment program, the Teen Center, the Annual College tour, Summer Enrichment program continue to enrich the quality of life for individuals in addition to strengthening, reuniting and building stronger families. Franklin Wright is generously supported by United Way and other committed and giving donors, but the existence for additional resources to meet the growing needs of the community is real. The rate is around 47 percent (functionally illiterate) for those who cannot read. We also need volunteers to help our children develop good study habits and prepare for the ACT. Franklin Wright could use a large bus to transport our youth and seniors. Were you aware that there are historic areas in the city of Detroit unlike any in the United States that even our seniors have not explored? Franklin Wright has a full bowling alley that needs serious repair and we need spon-
The management and staff of Franklin Wright are excited about the continued good that will take place because you, the community, are willing to take ownership in this endeavor. We need your help with a spirit of giving to continue to impact the long-term success of Franklin Wright programs and the community. Join us for a spectacular Evening of Elegance as we honor Loretta V. Davis, president and CEO of IOPH, Dave Meador, vice chair and CAO of DTE, Hiram Jackson, president and CEO of Real Times Media, and the nationally acclaimed Detroit Academy of Arts and Science Choir who will also perform in mini-concert.
