Happy New Year!

This is the time of year for renewal, self-examinations, fresh starts and the dreaded resolutions. The most important thing, though, in making resolutions is to be realistic with and TRUE TO yourself. Goals are great, as long as you take steps to accomplish them.

Jessica Heckman is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian in the state of Indiana, practicing medical nutrition therapy for the South Bend Clinic. She is most passionate about equipping others to be successful at weight loss and achieving a healthy relationship with food. Jessica believes there is nothing more rewarding than helping others to discover confidence and motivation to become healthier and live a full, meaningful life!

Which brings me to some ways we can improve this year! I’m forever trying to be more ‘green’, so the article on “How to Save the Planet While You’re at Work” by Sarah Boulac was especially intriguing to me. I am a recycling nut – I will dig things out of our trash at home and toss them in the make-shift recycling bins (read: cardboard boxes) I have in my garage. I’ve also been known to take piles of used paper from places I know DON’T recycle, and put them in my own bins, too! Girlfriend time is important, also – “Brews with the Gals” by Jennifer Warfel Juszkiewicz will point you toward a few little local gems to try out while you’re kicking back with your favorite friends. Freshen up your wardrobe, too, by the way – Kathy Friend gives us a great outline to grow our wardrobe with five MUST-HAVES for our closet! You’ll be surprised at all the ways you can pair some basics and stretch the outfit options you already have. And don’t forget to infuse a little bit of classy style! Andrew Skipper’s “Deliciously Downton” shows us how to mimic the style of the masterpiece hit show Downton Abbey with a few simple ideas that will have you out shopping in no time flat! My top resolution? To stop leaving things unfinishe…….

Jennifer Warfel Juszkiewicz, Jennifer is a doctoral student in English at IU Bloomington. She previously taught at (and attended) Saint Mary's College. She has two dogs, a husband and more books than she cares to count. SASSY | JANUARY 2013
