Online Databases and Resources

The LRC helps students conduct research by providing access to online databases such as PubMed and MEDLINE. These databases contain full text articles from peer-reviewed journals. Other databases, such as Anatomy.tv, provide students with 3D interactive anatomy exploration. Students can also view medical images and videos online. Click on the link to the Virtual Portal from michener.ca/LRC to find the LRC Services.

Referencing and Writing Tools

The LRC is committed to helping students succeed in their academic studies. You can find many tools on the library’s website to help you correctly reference resources and write assignments. Click on the link to the Virtual Portal from michener.ca/LRC to find the Referencing & Writing Help.

TEXTBOOK

You can find a list of required and recommended textbooks for your program on our website (michener.ca/textbook-list).

Textbooks can be purchased in person at the University of Toronto Bookstore, 214 College Street, or online at uoftbookstore.com. Start by clicking Textbooks and then Find Textbooks. Next, choose Michener as your Select a Campus term and continue filling in the requested information for each of your courses to generate a book list.

You can also choose to purchase your textbooks through your preferred online bookstore, but don’t forget to allow for delivery time. Alternatively, some of your textbooks may be available for purchase from upper year students. Check out the Student Success Network Facebook group.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to borrow textbooks from the LRC while the physical space is closed. When making plans, you should assume that you will not be able to borrow textbooks for the duration of the 2020-2022 academic year; you are encouraged to purchase your required textbooks.

gET INVOLVED

The best way to get the most out of your time at Michener is to get involved and participate in the many activities, committees and groups open to students. Below are just a few of the ways you can do just that.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council serves as the students’ representative body. It initiates and directs student activities, acts as liaison with Michener staff, and provides information from a student perspective to many Michener committees. The Council consists of student representatives elected from each fulltime program and from each year. Members attend weekly meetings to conduct business. Meetings will be conducted virtually until it is safe to resume in-person meetings. A staff member serves as advisor to assist the Council. For further information or a copy of our constitution, contact the Student Council at studentcouncil@michener.ca or drop by the office in room 1304.

MEDICAL RADIATION CIENCE OCIETY (MR )

The Medical Radiation Sciences Society overlooks both academic and social aspects of student life in the MRS programs in connection with the University of Toronto. Student representation is distributed among all disciplines (Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology, Radiological Technology, and Radiation Therapy) and across all three academic years to participate in decisionmaking administrative program committees working for the betterment of student life.

It is the responsibility of every MRSS member to maintain open communication regarding all academic and social activities by promoting inter-professionalism among peers, encouraging feedback, and ensuring that students are connected with the MRSS. Members of the MRSS strive to provide the best possible student experience, demonstrating professionalism and motivation for awareness of the medical radiation sciences. Contact us at mrssociety@michener.ca.

MEDICAL LABORATORY TUDENT ' OCIETY (ML )

In addition, we organize events to raise awareness, promote our profession, and discuss important topics to our disciplines. Our representatives are elected at the beginning of each academic year from the mentioned programs to share upcoming events with their class and to learn more about events of interest to their peers!
