Re • ti • ro BUGA-Box | Erfurt, Germany

The BUGA in Erfurt is a national garden show. For its grand re-opening in 2021, as part of a public relations work, they are looking for suitable means of communication to present up-todate information on the status of BUGA in a simple and flexible manner. Our task as students was to create a pavilion with a flexible use. One that could be transported to another site and still fit in with the scenery. An eyecatcher for tourists, inviting them to come close and therefore learn some important information. My inspiration for this project were the trees in my surroundings. I wanted to create a peaceful place, for people to come and relax. To“escape”from all the city chaos, a mental retirement. .

6

From above, my Pavilion resembles a tree crown. From an aerial point of view, it blends in with the surroundings.

H •D • W • R Haus der W. Republik | Weimar, Germany

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Weimar Republic in 1919, the building currently used as the Bauhaus Museum is to be converted into the“House of the Weimar Republic.”Its historical and well placed location makes it the perfect place to represent the house of one of Germany’ s most representative governments. Taking into account the conservation, renovation and additions that needed to be done, this building, with its cultural heritage, was a challenge to develop. The task of playing with the old and the new, showing how well the two can coexist was a difficult, but gratifying one.

The entrance, located on the east side, leads to two large opening staircases that invite the visitors to the first exhibition room. An easy and oriented path allows them to glide through the museum without a care.

Conver • gencias Neuenburg Castle | Freyburg, Germany

The Neuenburg castle is a hilltop castle overlooking Freyburg, a small German town. It was built around 1090 and is a quiet and above all very charmful place. Despite its beauty, a lack of tourism is noted. This is due to its isolation as nearby cities are further away. The task at hand was to increase such tourism, developing two different buildings throughout the property. As I found the architecture at hand was of such historical importance, I decided to integrate it to my project. Analyzing, what in my point of view would be of significant interest to this stronghold I decided to design a Greenhouse located in a former sheepfold and a Multifunctional Room, inside an old barn. This is where the old and new converge.

10

This Greenhouse, located inside a former sheepfold allows fruit and vegetables to also be grown in winter, giving the castle yearlong food independence. In addition, visitors, such as families, can enjoy a day out visiting the castle and explore this beautiful mix of the old, the new and the living.

City • weaving Brigittenau | Vienna, Austria

To reunite and redesign the Brigittenau district, specifically a 2-acre area full of warehouses belonging to a forgotten train station our concept uses a method originally derived from art; Paper Weaving. Here, ribbons of different colors are combined to form a versatile pattern. Our concept interweaves our structure with the surrounding area on the one hand, and on the other hand creates a new fabric of free space and mass. The former warehouses that where to be found are reinterpreted as open spaces and the existing open space is defined as building mass. The resulting open spaces characterize the directionality of the design. Our urban design develops from the two principles of interweaving and reversing the masses.

14

Our design, based on the concept of the urban fabric, forms a connecting element that blends into the existing urban space and enriches it with its own character and new qualities.

variety of possible combinations, a variety of uses and large open space qualities. The open spaces specially distinguish our concept. They are created on every scale. Each quarter lies on the overarching large open space system. Within a neighborhood, a smaller open space weaves its way into the typology and courtyards and bags form within the typology. All these spaces offer different qualities of living and the possibility for people to get in touch and form communities. Urban planning repertoire

Medical • net Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Netclinic Medical Center, located in in an exclusive area of the city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic wishes to expand and acquire an architectural design for a new adjacent infrastructure. With the lack of high-quality medical services in the region, this center aspires to improve the quality of the services offered. The project aims to build the first boutique hospital with the most advanced technology in the country.

House • of • Peace Bangui, Central African Republic.

House of Peace is a project with the goal to develop solutions for an architecture that should help support a process of balancing, understanding and acceptance. Its task is to deal with a possible approach to interreligious architecture as a physical support for conflict-solving mechanisms. The Central African Republic is sadly a country with a current smoldering civil war. The aim is to develop a possible role for architecture within these important religious conflicts and to transform these into an art of expression and understanding.

22

Section

Unity • Centrality • Communication The circle as an ancient typical building form of many African cultures served us as inspiration for the creation of an all-round communication space, which in its appearance deliberately sets a different form in the urban context of Bangui. A place where the elements of water and vegetation encounter and create peaceful togetherness, which with its radiance sets a sign, that calls to come together and to deal with the prevailing problems.

Paillote | Communications Center | Dry & rainy season

From all nine buildings in this Center, three of them are our most significant. They are completely circular, representing the values we cherish the most. Not only are they important because of what they represent, but because of the functions they entail.

Isometric

24

The Central African Republic’ s climate only varies between a very dry or very rainy season, and as water plays such an important role in this country, we felt it was of great importance to integrate it. These three constructions have a water collecting system, which allows it to be possible to have access to water year-round. But as the dry period affects half of the year, we made sure that our buildings could adapt to the changes and still provide an unforgettable experience.

Memorial

Entering these buildings is a meditative process. As the pathways lower and sink into the ground, everything around you becomes suddenly darker and taller, giving you a sense of enclosure and smallness. This process of entering the ground makes the impact once you reach the center all that more divine. For as the dark and lonely path you commenced is replaced with a magical light that shines directly from the sky reflecting on the water and invoking a place of pure quiet and peace. People are able to escape the hard reality they are living and breath. Interreligious Room
