Burns night is a piping success

36 Completely Bromsgrove B romsgrove Liberal Democrats and friends met to celebrate Burns Night on January 31 with attendees ranging from an 85-year-old to a newborn baby. Whilst others across the UK were attending Brexit celebrations or commiserations, the Bromsgrove Lib Dems welcomed all to the local event.

Attendees were greeted at the door of The Weighbridge pub in Alvechurch by the strains of the bagpipes and the Scottish theme continued throughout the traditional Burns Night dinner of cock-a-leekie soup followed by a main course of haggis. After the knife-wielding piper’s opening poem to the haggis, toasts were proposed by former parliamentary candidate Dr David Nicholl, to the lassies by Norton councillor Rob Hunter and to the laddies by Lickey Hills councillor Janet King.

Though all toasts were rather tongue in cheek, the gist of the evening was that whatever the future holds, the values of friendship, equality and working for the common good should never be underestimated.
