Boys’ Brigade sign up for Duke of Edinburgh Award
2nd Bromsgrove Boys’ Brigade are offering even more activities for their members this year. The Christian-based youth organisation, who meet weekly at the Methodist Church on Stratford Road, have just registered as an operating unit for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Group members will now be able to complete their awards through the Boys’ Brigade with support from their leaders. The decision to become an operating unit has been a hot topic for leaders for some time.

Leader Paul Hatton explained: “We have deliberated over the idea of delivering D of E for our members for a few years. However, many of them have previously undertaken the award through schools.
“As a holder of bronze, silver and gold D of E awards, I know the value of the scheme both for the individual and for employers. We have had several new members join our eldest age group and wanted to offer them the opportunity to attain the prestigious awards complimenting their activities they do with us.” The young people are excited to be offered the opportunity to participate in the award and are already booked on training weekends in preparation of their first expedition, where they carry everything they need for the weekend whilst walking through challenging countryside environments.
Each week, the group have approximately 70 young people aged between four and 18 attend and participate in fun, engaging and challenging activities including archery, climbing, cooking, craft, games, map reading and much more. They also participate in the town’s annual Remembrance Day Parade and carnival to name but two community events.
