The ground floor plan of the house is where Rietveld started his design. Both the living and sleeping quarter were held in the ground floor which could easily be rearranged because it was designed with sliding walls, Big designers such as Aino Alto and Mart Stam visited the house and were left impressed by the design. The house didn't have any sense of hierarchical arrangement and was completely flexible, the upstairs had collapsable walls centered around the central staircase which allows the children of the house to use collapse the walls during the day for play space and bring them up at night for privacy.
