M.5 Color + Environment - Life of Pi

Summary

The movie, Life of Pi, is a great film with amazing use of color. The use of color is very well thought out as you can almost see a different color palette in nearly every scene. The colors are used to represent mood, character development and symbolize many lessons through the movie. We see a young man grow and mature through a very challenging journey of losing his loved ones, finding faith and religions, moving to a new country, the use of very vibrant colors during the film just add support to his long journey.

The use of the color orange is very symbolic in this movie. This color is seen many times throughout the movie. The main use of if was through the color of the boat that Pi used in his journey and the color of the tiger, Richard Parker. In the film the color orange is used to symbolise hope and survival.

The use of the color blue is symbolic to the film to show Pi’s growth in terms of wisdom and faith. From early age, Pi was challenged by religion and faith and was interested by Christianity, the blue window shutters in the church show how he is embracing a new religion. In the other two images it shows Pi’s growth of wisdom through this difficult journey he’s gone through.
