—Louis Eilshemius (1864-1941), from Louis M. Elshemus, Poetical Works of Louis M. Elshemus (New York: The Abbey Press, 1901), 161-162
O there are still for me sweet joys to Remembrancesboot— of love-filled moments fond— Long parleys with dear friends of autumn-morns; And bantering. There is the bond of friendship That makes me think of others; and the thought That in my age I yet may joyaunce give To some lone being left forlorn and sad. And may we three not spend rapt evenings, As now, to muse of things unknown, unfelt Before—oh! In the peace of nature’s realm We find new thought to wish we lived fore’er!
