BiMBA AT NATIONAL SCHOOL OF DEVELOPMENT If you are thinking about doing business in or with China, think BiMBA at National School of Development, Peking University. This program has been ranked #1 in China by Fortune (China) and Forbes (China) for years, and BusinessWeek has described it as “An MBA with a Heart”. National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University (based at the prestigious China Center for Economic Research, CCER), the parent institution of BiMBA, was founded by Prof. Justin Yifu Lin (former Chief Economist and Senior VP, World Bank) in 1994, and committed to comprehensive and interdisciplinary studies in social sciences and training well-rounded talents for the nation. The NSD and CCER have played a key role in China’s social and economic reform during the past twenty years and have earned a reputation

for being a top Chinese government think-tank. Thus, BiMBA has been regarded as “A Business School in China’s Think-Tank”. BiMBA is one of China’s premier MBA programs, jointly operated with Vlerick Business School, the best Business School in Belgium, recognized by the Financial Times and The Economist as one of Europe’s top business schools. As a benefit of this joint venture, graduates from BiMBA receive a diploma from Vlerick Business School to further enhance their academic credentials. Vlerick Business School belongs to a select group of business schools in the world that hold all 3 major international accreditation labels in the world of management education: EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB.

Ranking NO.1 “The Most Valuable Full-time MBA in China” (2014) Forbes (China)

NO.2 “The Most Valuable Part-time MBA in China” (2014) Forbes (China)

NO.1 No.1 in China and No.7 in Asia QS Global 200 Business School Report (2013/2014)

WHY BiMBA ? “Management skills alone are not enough for future business leaders, especially those who are doing business in and with China, a transitional economy. You must gain a deep understanding of China’s economic development trend and business environment. Faculty from National School of Development and BiMBA will give MBA and EMBA students, who are entrepreneurs and managers, a macro-economic perspective.” Justin Yifu Lin Founder and Honorary Dean of NSD Founder of BiMBA Former Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank

A WORLD-CLASS FACULTY UNDERSTANDING CHINA AND BEYOND One of the most important resources of a world-class business school is the professors who teach the programs. The faculty of our MBA program is drawn from business schools around the world – 25% from the United States, 25% from Europe, and 50% from China. Internationalization is in the vein of BiMBA. Our founding institution, National School of Development, is the only school at Peking University where all the faculty members received their PhDs from leading universities abroad. Besides, as a top think tank in China, NSD’s faculty bring their understandings of China’s future development to the MBA class.

NO.1 IN MAINLAND CHINA

The teaching faculty at BiMBA is chosen based on several important criteria. In the first place, they must have good credentials. All of our faculty members hold a PhD from a leading university (such as Harvard University, University of Chicago,

University of Pennsylvania, etc.). Secondly, they have proved themselves to be excellent instructors. Thirdly, they have to be experts in their respective field both academically and practically, which means they should be not only savvy with the theoretical knowledge in their own fields but also be able to apply the knowledge to real managerial issues faced by organizations. Fourthly, they have to have a very appealing teaching style that enables them to engage the students in the learning process, helping each member of the class rise to his or her potentials. Instead of following the traditional lecturing method, professors at BiMBA adopt a variety of teaching methodologies, such as case study and experimental learning, to facilitate students’ learning process and create a deep engagement between professors and students.

“The roundtable conference held by NSD professors is one of my most memorable moments in my BiMBA life. Scholars that understand the complexities of China, be it in economics, politics and social structure, gather at the National School of Development, a place that has the reputation to gather elites in respective fields into the same venue to talk about -the future decade of China, a topic that attracts attention from all over the world. The most exciting thing about this conference is you get the chance to hear top economists in China to discuss and debate about hot issues about the future ten years of China. One really can get some insights about China from professors in Peking University where, would you find a better place than BiMBA?”

As the capital city at the forefront of China's development in the 21st century with a history stretching millennia, Beijing reflects both the new and old China. Here, you can catch glimpses of the past - the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square - you would be forgiven for thinking that many things do not change. However, you can also see a new China and the pace of its change. Merely a few kilometers from Peking University lies Zhongguancun, China's Silicon Valley. Zhongguancun is home to the Chinese headquarters of Google, Intel, AMD, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. Steeped in history, culture and the driving force in China's development, Beijing is the perfect location for anyone serious about a China-related career.

“I walked out of BiMBA without fear. With the new tools I acquired from professors and friends I made,I took on something I have never done before – real estate development. Whenever I encounter problems, I just have to call classmates and they can give me unbiased suggestions. Classmates even flew down to Guangdong to give me guidance on the land I am developing. With the handful of students carefully selected from thousands of applicants each year, the network one can leverage at BiMBA is of high quality. The connection you can build is not limited to just your current classmates, but it goes on to: friend of classmates, spouses, relatives, colleagues, bosses, and previous and future MBA and EMBA students. Just last week, through the connection made during MBA, I was able to meet with general managers of world-class consulting firms, banks, and real estate developers. They are the people I could not have touched so quickly and so directly without going through BiMBA. ” Gaven Chen, Canadian 2011 Full-time Class Real Estate Development Division Manager Guangdong United Textile Ltd. “ The world has witnessed a rapidly evolving business landscape with an explosion of growth in the emerging markets, namely the BRICs countries. Middle classes have emerged and vast populations of new consumers have entered the market. At the forefront of this explosion stands one country that will lead us into the next century: China. So I am looking to begin the second chapter of my life in China. Tapping into a foreign market with different customs, languages and limited contacts presents a unique challenge. BiMBA offers a rare opportunity to learn about China as a whole, including its customs, history, business culture and language.
