Poetry: It makes you think

By: Michael Amsel

Dedication

I would like to dedicate this book for my parents, because they help me through a lot and they are the reasons I am where I am. Without them I wouldn’t be able to write this Poetry Anthology and I think without them none of this would be possible.

Alliteration-P

A Plethora of People

People, people, everywhere Pointing at sights and Posing for pictures on their very “adventurous plight People, people everywhere Setting up for picnics in the park so they can enjoy; Pickles, pudding, pomegranate, and pork along with Pineapple, and pancakes to eat with their fork All of the people who live in the town of, Palmdale Just can't stand these tourists with their plumpy packs that sit on their backs But once theses pesky and provoking tourists leave, The town of Palmdale is all peace and tranquility

Assonance- Short E Entering the Gates

I fly through the gates to get to the target. Nice and stealthy The target: Evelyne. The Princess of Evertown. The Bounty: 5,000 credits. Cracking open the window, I spy Evelyne reading a book. Perhaps The Merchant of Venice? I creep through the window, and then... Hsssssss The poison is injected. Not lethal, but enough to make her rest. Now to exit. Gliding out of the gates. On to the next target Perhaps Eva from Esterville?

The School Day I. It is 7:49 and all is quiet, only mumbles heard at the Academy Then the morning bell rings, bing, bing, bing Everyone makes that dreadful walk to their first class, almost half asleep The thumping and clatter of everyone’s feet on the ground, some rushing and some slowly walking trying to delay their horrid fate

Onomatopoeia Poem

II. Now, 1:04, belly rumbling and rumbling yearning for something to eat Another bell, bing, bing, bing A traffic jam! All kids rushing to eat as they whizz to the cafeteria All the kids thinking, “Mmmmmmm Something to eat III. Now it is 3:14, all excited and hearts beating fast, thump, thump, thump And there it is again, bing, bing, bing And suddenly, WHOOSH! Class doors crackling open with students pouring out ready to go home, Finally 3:15!

Personification Poem

The Fun of Education

As I walked into the classroom, everything seemed to buzz around me The books were jumping, and the erasers were laughing And the pencils were mingling and the paper was singing The classroom was alive All of the objects in the classroom got me excited I approached to talk with them, but as I got close I realized that nothing was moving It was just my excitement to learn

Imagery- Desk

The Start of All Creativity

It all started with a desk Every student starts at a desk Every writer, artist, painter, philosopher, and scientists all started at a desk Each desk, old and rough, with splinters coming out. Or even shiny and new, with polished wood, with a manufacturer's smell Each desk is the basis for a new idea, theory, song, painting, movie, etc. Some desks creak when opened and some are dusty and old, and some even with mold Even though there are these different desks, they all have one thing in common, they have the potential to make something incredible

Simile/Metaphor

My LIfe

July 12th, the day that shone as bright as the sun, I was born Now 12 years later here I am, writing this poem, Wondering what I will be like when I grow up Maybe as strong as a lion? Or maybe a mind at a Quicksilver speed My life has been a blur, One thing to the next and to the next One day inside playing video games, The next in New York admiring The buildings that can reach the clouds My parents helping along the whole way, Guiding me like a northern star Perhaps an astronaut as brave as a pirate, Or a lawyer arguing like a teenage girl with her mother I have no idea what life has in store for me, but whatever it is, I will be ready

Rhyme

The Chicken Strips

Mmmmmmmm, hot and juicy chicken strips Ready to make contact with my lips As I bite into the chicken I think of my stomach starting to thicken Three days later I am as fat as a crater I go to the doctor and they say I have a blood clot I pray to myself and say, I hope not They call in the examinator And they say the only thing that could save me is my tissue plasminogen activator Three days later I died And here I am in heaven looking fly

Tone-Romantic Music Poem

Candy for the ears Sometimes brings tears Fun to play and fun to listen Music, music, music the best thing ever

Sometimes music is really loud And sometimes it doesn’t sound good to the crowd If I ever hear bad music I just walk away

Music, relaxing and calming Different genres to choose from From Jazz to Rock to Bossa Music, Music. Music

Mood-hopeful/hopeless

The Party Going out to go to the club Going to get some girls Probably not take them for a ride I walk in and Ask for a shot One, two, three, four, I hit the floor Thump! Everyone looks at me I get up dizzily Looking to talk to some girls I try to seem presentable So I unbutton my shirt, Everyone thinks I am crazy

Going out looking fly Trying to get some girls to take for a ride Walk into the club And ask for a shot One, two, three, four, I drop and hit the floor I get up and start dancing Looking to flirt I try to look cool so I unbutton my shirt

Hyperbole

I Don’t Want To Ugh, Homework, worse than being eaten alive ! I have to go hide in the deep pits of my bed, real low From my‌. Parents who run the show Days upon days of work My parents going around calling, KIRK! I try to stay hidden, but I know it is the end But my parents find me and try to be my friend Saying, If you do your homework we will give you candy I know it is all a hoax, but candy sure does come in handy! I say Ok, but I realize it is too late I am caught in a trap stuck doing this homework That I refuse to do, because who wants to do work, at HOME!

A Couple Grams

Lights gone from her red cheeks now colorless Burnt lungs shriveled up as the days go on Pockets empty, overdosed, life’s a mess Searching for an escape, life’s meanings gone Sells herself to men for a couple grams Takes them blindly to numb the pain of life Will Take anything and does not give two damns This escape to mask the mess of her strife As this poison flows through her veins, in sane Wakes up in a random place, bad nightmares Pills used to relieve the strong massive pain Her mind can’t bear, the fact that no one cares Do not fall into this terrible trap Or else you will take a forever nap
