May 1, 2021 // 8:00 p.m. // Tickets: $80 Hailed as the “Mark Twain of Americana,” Paul Thorn brings his gritty, Gospel-infused Southern Rock straight from his hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, where he grew up as the son of a Pentecostal preacher and the nephew of a pimp. Thorn spent much of his childhood in church, participating in multiple weekly services with his father as well as at neighboring African American congregation where he became entranced with the music whose infectious spirit is captured on his album, “Don’t Let the Devil Ride.” That album collects Soulful songs originally cut by black Gospel groups and features guests such as Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, the Preservation Hall Jazz Horns, and Bonnie Bishop.
