SMOKING POLICY
2
SMOKE FREE SCHOOL POLICY RATIONALE Since 1St July 2007 it has been illegal to smoke on school premises along with all other enclosed public places. Regardless of this legal requirement South Shields Community School is committed to creating a smoke free environment for the benefit of all members of our community. Smoking has a significant negative impact on health. It causes many serious illnesses. It reduces the quality of life of the smoker and those around them. It also reduces life expectancy. Stopping smoking always has health (and financial) benefits. The younger the person is when they quit the greater the benefits. No smoking is clearly the best choice for a healthy lifestyle.
AIM
To provide education to all students on the dangers of smoking
To encourage all members of the school community to adopt no smoking as part of a healthy lifestyle
To comply with the law, which prohibits smoking in the workplace
Consultation This policy was drafted using ideas from a number of different groups in the school. It will be reviewed annually taking in consideration the views of all our stakeholders.
