THE BRIEF WAS AIMED AT DESIGNING A HOMESTEAD FOR THE FAMILIES AFFECTED BY CYCLONES IN THE SUNDARBAN AREA WITH TTHE GIVEN SITE DIMENSIONS AND AREA RESTRICTIONS. THIS IS A LOW-COST FLOOD RISK REDUCTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION STRATEGY THAT RESPECTS LOCAL KNOWLEDGE AND CULTURAL PRACTICES AND SUPPORTS THE PRESERVATION OF TRADITIONAL HOUSING FORMS. THE DESIGN USES A BUILDING SYSTEM SIMILAR TO THE LOCAL, WHICH ALLOWS AN EASIER TRANSITION FROM OLD TO THE NEW, USING EASILY AVAILABLE MATERIALS AND TOOLS IN THE REGION.

THIS PROJECT WAS AN ENTRY FOR ARCHDAIS COMPETITION - THE HOUSE, WHICH FOCUSED ON CRAFTING HOME THROUGH SPACES. THE AIM OF THE BRIEF WAS TO UNDERSTAND DIFFERNT IDEAS OF HOUSE DESIGN, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LOCATION AND TO RETHINK THE BASIC FUNCTIONALITY OF THE HOUSE, AND EXPLORE THE NOTIONS OF WHAT A ‘HOME’ IS.

THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN THE OFFICE IN 300SQM AREA, PROVIDING SOLUTIONS FOR SPACES TO STAY OPERATIONAL WITHOUT INCREASING THE RISK OF VIRAL SPREAD, WITH A NEW CONCEPT IN DESIGN SUCH AS CONTACTLESS DESIGN WHERE TECHNOLOGY, AUTOMATION AND INNOVATION PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE. THE PROJECT HAS A DESIGN OF AN OFFICE MODULE FOR AN ARCHITECTURE FIRM FOR 20 PEOPLE.

AND AS THEY WILL SIT FACING EACH OTHER, IT WILL ENSURE THE INTERACTION WITHOUT COMPROMISING PHYSICAL DISTANCING. IN THE CENTRAL AREA THERE IS A CIRCULAR PART FOR PLANTERS WHICH ACT AS A BUFFER IN BETWEEN.

WORKING ON EVERY ASPECT OF DESIGN, FROM RESEARCH AND BYE LAWS TO CONCEPT AND EVOLUTION OF FORM, TO THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONALITY OF THE BUILDING , TO THE SITE PLANNING AND LANDSCAPING , TO ALL THE SERVICES THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR THE WORKING OF ANY BUILDING. ON A SITE OF CHOICE OF AREA AROUND 4 HECTARES IN ANY CITY IN INDIA, KEEPING IN MIND THE LAND USE.

A MIXED USE BUILDING HAS DIFFRENT USES AND SO THERE IS A DIFFERENT RANGE OF USERS WHICH NEEDS TO BE CATERED DIFFERENTLY. WE NEED TO PROVIDE FACILITIES TO ALL THE GROUPS KEEPING IN MIND THE PRIVACY OF ALL THE DIFFERENT GROUPS. THERE ARE DIFFRENT KINDS OF FACILITIES AND AMENITIES FOR THE DIFFRENT GROUPS. SINCE THESE GROUPS WILL BE USING THE BUILDINGS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE DAY AND FOR DIFFRENT TIME PERIODS.
MAKING THE ROTATING ANGLE 10 TO CREATE STEPPED TERRACES AND PROVIDE VIEWS IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS.

CREATING AN INTERESTING FORM BY PUSHING IN, PULLING OUT AND ADDITIONS. SO THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT VIEWS , PRIVACY, DAYLIGHT, GREEN,AND SOUND AND WIND PROTECTION.

THIS PROJECT WAS AN ENTRY FOR THE VOLUME ZERO COMPETITION - TINY LIBRARY. THE BRIEF OF THIS COMPETITION WAS AIMED TO DESIGN A TINY LIBRARY OPTIMISED FOR 50 USERS IN A MAXIMUM OF 200SQM BUILT UP AREA WITH ENGAGING MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SPACES FOR ALL AGES AND SPATIAL EXPERIENCE, EQUIPPED WITH TRADITIONAL READING MATERIAL ALONG WITH MODERN MATERIALS SUCH AS AUDIO-VISUAL BOOKS, E-BOOKS ETC. AND CONSIDERING AFFORDABILITY AND OPTIMUM USE OF SPACE, ON A SITE OF PARTICIPANTS CHOICE IN A RURAL AREA WHERE ACCESSIBILITY TO KNOWLEDGE MAY CHANGE ITS EXISTING CONDITIONS.

TINY LIBRARY VOLUME ZERO COMPETITION
AS THE COMPETITION SEEKS FOR A RURAL CONTEXT, THE SITE- KATHOTIYA IS A SMALL FOREST VILLAGE THAT COMES UNDER SEHORE FOREST DIVISION OF MADHYA PRADESH. THIS VILLAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 25KM AWAY FROM THE BHOPAL CITY. KATHOTIYA IS INHABITATED BY BHEEL AND BHILALA TRIBES. THESE TRIBES WERE TRADITIONALLY HUNTERS AND NOW INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURE IN THE FOREST AREA.
AS THE LIBRARY SERVES THREE MAJOR ACTIVITIES, THREE DIFFERENT CIRCLES ARE DESIGNED TO GET THE BEST UTILIZATION AND EFFICIENT USAGE OF THE SPACES. TO STAND OUT THE DESIGN AND BREAKING THE MONOTONY OF REGULAR BASIC RECTANGULAR SHAPES OF STRUCTURES IN THE VILLAGE,THE CIRCULAR GEOMETRY HAS CHOSEN.
FORM EVOLUTION
HEIGHT IS GIVEN BY THE REQUIREMENTS OF SPACES AND IT IS ALSO USED AS A COMPONENT TO PLAY WITH AESTHETIC FEATURES OF THE DESIGN.
BY MERGING ALL THE CIRCULAR FORMS, WE GOT A POSSIBILITY OF FORMING A SEMICOVERED AREA WHICH HELPED US TO GET A COMMON SPACE BETWEEN SPACES.
HOW THE DESIGN HELPS PEOPLE OF KATHOTIYA? LIBRARY HAS A SECTION DESIGNATED ONLY FOR THE BOOKS RELATED TO AGRICULTURE, FOREST AND TRIBAL ARTS. THIS WILL BE BENEFICIAL FOR THEIR CROPS AND FOREST PRODUCE. AREA AROUND KATHOTIYA IS TURNING INTO A JUNGLE CAMP, THAT WILL BRING PEOPLE IN CONTACT WITH THIS PLACE. THUS THE FOR EXHIBITION SPACE IN THE LIBRARY FOR THE ARTEFACTS, WILL PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY TO THEIR TRIBAL ART.
TINY LIBRARY - VOLUME ZERO
THE MATERIALS USED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF LIBRARY ARE LOCAL AND AFFORDABLE. WINDOWS AND DOORS ARE MADE OF WOOD. ROOF IS MADE USING THE WOODEN FRAME AND THATCH WHICH ADD THE INDIGENOUS TOUCH TO THE DESIGN, ROOF IS A SLIGHT SLOPING FORM WHICH BLENDS WITH THE HOUSES OF VILLAGE. WALLS ARE OF BRICK ONTO WHICH BEAUTIFUL PAINTINGS OF BHEEL ART ARE MADE. WOODEN COLUMNS IN THE EXHIBITION AREA MAKES IT EVEN MORE CONNECTED TO THE HERITAGE OF COMMUNITY.
EACH ACTIVITY SHOULD JUSTIFY THE SPACE GIVEN TO IT WITH THE NEEDS REQUIRED, AND DESIGNING IS SIGNIFICANT WHEN THERE IS NO WASTAGE OF THE SPACES. SO EACH CIRCULAR FORM IS GIVEN ONLY ITS REQUIRED AREA.

THE TOWER IS NAMED AS ÁRBOL TOWER, THE WORD “ARBOL” IS A SPANISH WORD WHICH MEANS TREE. AS THE FUNCTION OF THIS TOWER IS SAME AS OF A TREE. IT INTAKES POLLUTED AIR FROM ALL THE DIRECTION THROUGH THE VENTS ALL OVER ITS SURFACE, PURIFIES IT INSIDE THE CHAMBER AND RELEASES FROM PROPELLERS AT THE TOP OF THE TOWER. ÁRBOL TOWER HAS BIOSOLAR LEAF PANELS ON IT WHICH IS INSTALLED FOR THE HIGH ALERT SCENARIO OF POLLUTION. TOWER HAS INTELLIGENT SENSORS WHICH SENSES THE LEVEL OF POLLUTION AND ADJUST ITS PURIFICATION LEVEL UPTO THAT.

DIVIDING IN PLATES AND ROTATING THE PLATES TO GET STEPPED FORM SO THAT THERE IS MORE AREA FACING UPWARD EXPOSED TO SUN FOR BIO SOLAR LEAF.
THIS ROTATION ALSO GIVES THE TOWER A TWISTING FORM WHICH ALLOWS THE WIND TO FLOW ALONG THE SURFACE OF THE TOWER.

THE FAÇADE OF TOWER AT THE BOTTOM 10 M HAS GIVEN VENTS ALL AROUND IT FOR AIR INTAKE TO CHAMBER. ABOVE WHICH THE FILTRATION SYSTEM IS INSTALLED THROUGH WHICH PURIFICATION OF AIR TAKES PLACE AND GOES ABOVE TO ANOTHER CHAMBER. AT THE TOP, PROPELLERS ARE GIVEN THROUGH WHICH FRESH AIR COMES OUT. THE SPACES CREATED BY THE ROTATION OF PLATES IN THE TOWER, ARE COVERED WITH THE BIOSOLAR LEAF SO WHEN THE POLLUTION LEVEL INCREASES, SENSORS GIVE INFORMATION TO THE CONTROL ROOM AND BIOSOLAR LEAF ARE ACTUATED. THESE ARE LARGE PANELS WITH TINY PLANTS THAT ABSORB CARBON DIOXIDE AND RELEASES OXYGEN.
SECTION OF THE TOWER
THE PREFILTERS ARE PROVIDED IN THE AIR INTAKE VENTS TO FILTER THE BIG PARTICLES FLOWING WITH THE POLUTED AIR SUCH AS DRY LEAVES AND SUSPENDED DIRT PARTCLES, THE SUSPENDED DIRT PARTICLES AND OTHER SOLID POLLUTANTS GET COLLECTED AT THE BASE, WHICH CAN BE EASILY REMOVED LATER.
BIOSOLAR LEAF THESE ARE LARGE PANELS COVERED WITH TINY PLANTS THAT MOP UP CARBON DIOXIDE AND RELEASE OXYGEN AT A RATE EQUIVALENT TO 100 TREES FROM THE SURFACE AREA OF A SINGLE TREE. THEY ARE PROVIDED AT THE ROOF OF TOWER AND AT STEPPED AEAS FACING UPWARD.
PROPELLERS THERE ARE PROPELLERS AT THE TOP PART OF THE TOWER FROM WHERE THE FRESH AIR WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT. IT IS COVERED WITH A ROOF TO AVOID DAMAGE FROM RAIN.
STEPPED FORM THE PLATES ARE ROTATED TO FORM STEPS WHICH HAVE BIOSOLAR LEAF PANELS ON THE TOP PART AS IT IS DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO SUN AND THERE ARE AIR VENTS WITH PRIMARY FILTERATION ON THE VERTICAL PART OF THE STEPS.

FOR THE PROPER MANAGEMENT AND ACCESSIBILITY, WE DIVIDED DELHI INTO DIFFERENT ZONES TO COVER ALL THE AREA. EACH ZONE HAS AN AREA OF 100SQ.KM AND HAS 9 PURIFICATION TOWERS LOCATED IN IT, WITH A CONTROL ROOM WHICH GIVES COMMAND TO ALL THE TOWERS LOCATED IN THAT PARTICULAR ZONE.
