Our story M G Evans & Sons is an independent family-owned Funeral Directors established in Atherstone in 1969 by Melvyn and Doreen Evans. The company has been run by the Evans family for over half a century and is now run by Doreen and Melvyn’s sons David and Nigel, together with David’s daughter Carly and Nigel’s three sons Matthew, George and Luke, who are the third generation of the Evans family to join the family business. The company has expanded over the years with offices in both Tamworth and Nuneaton. Every funeral arrangement is carried out respectfully and is arranged to be completely personal to your own wishes. Pre-Paid Funeral Plan

What is a funeral plan? A funeral plan allows you to pay the cost of the funeral director’s services at today’s prices and gives you total control over your funeral arrangements. We believe it is important for you to get the funeral you want, and for your family to receive genuinely personal service when it really counts.

What is included in a funeral plan and what costs do I need to cover? Whilst the cost of the funeral director’s services are included in your plan, there are other costs you need to consider. These are the disbursement costs for essential services - including burial or cremation fees and the minister or officiant’s fee. The funeral director has no control over these costs and therefore these fees may have to be topped up at the time of the funeral. You can however rest assured that the value of the third party cost allowance included in your plan will grow over time. There will only be more to pay at the time of the funeral if the third party costs increase by more than the growth of your plan.

Pre-Paid Funeral Plan

Included in all our funeral plans: All of our professional services and making the arrangements for the funeral. Advice on the certification and registration of the death and related documentation. The coffin (We will offer further guidance on the types of coffin available). Collection and transportation of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest. Care of the deceased prior to the burial or cremation.

The funeral service at a local cemetery or crematorium. Funeral held on a normal weekday, during working hours. Hearse to local crematorium or cemetery. Provision of sufficient staff to attend to the coffin as required. An allowance towards third party costs. 24-hour funeral director telephone support for the bereaved.

Use of the Chapel of Rest.

Please note: Our plans do not include the purchase of a burial plot in a cemetery. Should you choose burial in a Cemetery we would recommend that you purchase a grave, at the time of taking out the plan, from the relevant Council. Please note that the same rules do not apply to churchyards. Where you are allowed to pay for the burial in a churchyard on your plan the grave cannot be reserved or purchased from the Church at that time. The grave would be purchased and paid for at the time of the funeral.

Why should I purchase a funeral plan? You might be surprised to hear that while the average cost of a funeral in 2004 was £1,920, today it’s £4,271.* That’s an increase of 122%. A funeral plan with us allows you to fix the cost of our services included in your plan at today’s prices. Save money by acting today That’s why it pays to act now. With a plan from Golden Charter, no matter how much prices rise in the future, once your plan is paid for you will have the reassurance of knowing there will be nothing more to pay, as these services are guaranteed. And the sooner you take out a plan the greater the saving could be.

Taking out a plan for a loved one If you wish, you can take out a funeral plan for someone else in your family. All you need to do is complete the ‘plan holder’s representative’ section of the application process.

Pre-Paid Funeral Plan

Your money is protected We are proud to be registered with the National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). With a Golden Charter Funeral Plan, your payments are completely protected. Your money is paid into the Golden Charter Trust**, which is run by an Independent Board of Trustees who manage the trust’s funds on behalf of our plan holders and safeguard future payments to funeral directors.

Peace of mind for you and your family At a stressful time, it could help your family avoid difficult decisions and prevent any financial worries that may arise over funeral costs.

Why Golden Charter In 2001 the Government issued guidelines that all funeral plans had to be regulated by a registered administrator. At that time, we at M G Evans & Sons started to search for the perfect company to represent our customers. We needed to find a company that we could entrust our future plans with. After a long search, we chose Golden Charter Trust. The company was founded in 1991 with the aim of safeguarding the future of local, often family-run funeral directors. They now have over 25 years experience and are owned by an association of independent funeral directors. They have around 300 experienced members of staff and are one of the leading funeral plan providers, working with almost 3000 independent funeral directors all over the UK.

Pre-Paid Funeral Plan

Other funeral costs to consider Along with the funeral director and cremation or burial fees, some people choose to pay for additional services for the ceremony, such as catering, venue hire for the wake, funeral flowers, and additional transport such as limousines. Research has found that these extras can cost up to £2,061* These extra costs are completely optional and you should not feel pressured into paying for things that aren’t in your budget. Some people choose to ask friends and family to help – for example, could someone help with flower arrangements or do you know someone who could provide catering? These costs can vary, so it’s worth shopping around to find quotes that fit your budget. *SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2018

12 monthly payments

You can make a one off single payment for immediate cover. You can pay by debit card, credit card or cheque. If paying by cheque, please remember to return it, made payable to ‘Golden Charter Trust’, with your application form.

If you would prefer to spread the cost, you can pay over 12 monthly payments by Direct Debit at no extra charge.

Fixed monthly payments

If you would like lower monthly payments, we offer payment terms from 2 to 30 years, making our plans even more affordable. Payable by Direct Debit, the monthly payment will depend on your choice of plan and the number of years you would like to pay. This option is available if you are under the age of 78 at the time of the application and you will be fully covered at the end of the payment term.

We also offer fixed monthly payments where you pay a fixed monthly amount by Direct Debit, based on your age (at the time of the application) and choice of funeral plan, which is payable for life or until the age of 90. This option is available if you are aged 50 to 80. You will be fully covered after two years’ consecutive payments. The total payable could potentially be higher than the cost of your funeral plan.

14

Just select this option and complete the Direct Debit Instruction on your application form. A small initial deposit is required. You will be fully covered once the plan is fully paid.

Your later life planning questions answered Below is a list of the questions we are asked most and our answers. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. What happens once I’ve bought my plan? Golden Charter will send you a membership pack with all the information about your plan, as well as a membership card. What if I have special requests for my funeral? You can tell us about any special wishes for your funeral when you apply. If these involve extra costs, you may be able to add these on to the total cost of your plan (except where you choose to pay by fixed monthly payments). Can I transfer my plan to someone else? Yes, your plan can be transferred and used for the funeral of a spouse or other family member if they die before you. This option is not available if you pay by fixed monthly payments. There would be extra costs if the funeral arrangements differ from what’s specified in the plan, for example, burial instead of cremation, an additional limousine or a different location. What if I change my mind? If you cancel within 30 days Golden Charter will refund the payment you have made. For details of cancellation terms after 30 days, please see the enclosed Payment Information and Key Features documents.

If paying by fixed monthly payments, please note the plan holder will be contacted directly by the life assurance company that provides this payment option. What if I die in another country? If you intend to travel overseas, we recommend that your travel or medical insurance policy includes cover for repatriation costs back to the UK. Your funeral plan covers the cost of transportation of the body from the relevant UK airport or port to the funeral director’s premises.
