“Geo/metrías” es la primera muestra de una nueva forma de expresión de Marcelo González Calero, una idea que nació en Panamá, se desarrolló en su estudio y vio la luz en Uruguay a finales del año 2017. Está compuesta de 22 obras únicas, creadas con una selección de fotografías Fine Art de su autoría, que fueron reinterpretadas y expresadas en una fructífera mezcla entre la fotografía y el arte digital.
“Geo/metrics” is the first sample of Marcelo González Calero’s new form of expression, an idea that was born in Panama, developed in his studio, and came to fruition in Uruguay as 2017 came to a close. It consists of 22 single-print works of art, created from a selection of his fine-art photographs, re-interpreted and depicted in an effective mix of photography and digital art.
La colección está inspirada en la naturaleza “Geo”, representada en formas geométricas claras y definidas, plasmadas sobre el blanco infinito y multidimensional. De ahí el juego de palabras que da el nombre a “Geo/ metrías”. Con este trabajo el artista buscó redefinir el paisaje objetivo, ampliar la expresión de la fotografía y así poder contemplar aspectos subjetivos, sensitivos y espaciales que se encuentran más allá de los límites del fotograma. Al recorrer la serie se encontrará con composiciones en múltiples planos, figuras que denotan tensión, movimiento y equilibrio, incluso algunas podrían ser hasta irritantes para el espectador obsesivo. Descubrirá en la obra “real” del artista, otra emergente “complementaria” creada por la mente del observador, que juntas finalmente harán a la expresión completa. Marcelo se inspira en principios del “Suprematismo” que reconoce como propios. En su método descompone la imagen, la aísla, la reestructura, la reinventa y la simplifica, se desprende de las reglas estrictas de la naturaleza para adquirir la más amplia libertad de expresión. Parafraseando a Malevich, diría que el artista ya no está ligado al fotograma, al plano de la fotografía, sino que es capaz de trasladar sus composiciones de la realidad al espacio infinito.
The collection takes its inspiration from nature, “Geo”, represented in clear and definite geometric shapes, captured on an infinite and multidimensional white void. Thus the play on words that gives “Geo/metrics” its name. With this project the artist looks to redefine the objective imagery, to expand the photographic expression in order to contemplate subjective, sensitive and spatial aspects that are beyond the limits of the camera’s frame. As you browse the series you will find multi-plane compositions with shapes that convey tension, movement and balance, to the point that some may even be irritating to the obsessive spectator. In the artist’s “actual” piece you will discover an emerging “complimentary” one, created in the spectator’s mind, that when combined, will ultimately give you a complete interpretation. Marcelo finds inspiration in the principles of “Suprematism” that he recognizes as similar to his own. As part of his method he decomposes the image, isolates and restructures it, reinvents and simplifies it, leaving behind the strict rules of nature in order to obtain the most extensive freedom of expression. Paraphrasing Malevich, he would say that the artist is no longer limited to the camera’s frame or the photograph’s plane, but is now capable of transporting his compositions from the surface of canvas to space.

Marcelo González Calero nació en Montevideo, Uruguay en el año 1984. Luego de una infancia cultivada en el teatro y la música, estudió Abogacía y Relaciones Internacionales en la Universidad de la República de Uruguay pero más se interesó por el Arte. Estudió fotografía en el instituto Foto Club Uruguayo (FCU) como discípulo de los fotógrafos Jorge Ameal y Álvaro Percovich, finalizando en el año 2009 y posteriormente se radicó en Chile. En noviembre del 2013, realiza su primera exposición individual “Desierto de Atacama” en la Universidad Mayor de Chile. En enero del 2014, exhibió en la feria internacional “Expo Punta Arte” de Punta del Este, Uruguay. En marzo de 2014 inauguró la muestra individual “American Pacific Coast” en la Embajada de Estados Unidos en Montevideo y en mayo del mismo año se expuso la misma en la sala Figari del Ministerio de RREE de Uruguay. En enero de 2015 funda su estudio de fotografía en Uruguay. En noviembre de 2015, estrenó “Postales de la Costa” en la Sala Figari del Palacio Santos. En abril de 2016 lanzó su sitio web www.gonzalezcalero.com dedicado a la fotografía profesional. En marzo de 2017 en el marco del “Mes de la francofonía” inauguró en Carmelo, Uruguay, la muestra “Palacio Santos” y en abril la exhibió en Doha, Qatar en el Centro cultural Katara. En junio realizó obras mixtas junto a la maestra Olga Sinclair que se exhibieron en agosto en Panamá y en noviembre en California, Estados Unidos. En diciembre, abriendo un nuevo camino, presentó su más reciente colección a la fecha, “Geo/ metrías” en Montevideo, Uruguay.
Marcelo González Calero was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1984. After a childhood rich in theater arts and music, he went on to study both Law and International Relations at the University of the Republic of Uruguay, but soon realized that his real passion was Art. Marcelo enrolled in the Instituto Foto Club Uruguayo (FCU) and studied under photographers Jorge Ameal and Álvaro Percovich, finishing in 2009 and settling in Chile soon after. Marcelo inaugurated his first exhibition in November 2013 titled “The Atacama Desert” with a showing at the Mayor University in Santiago, Chile. In January 2014 he presented a select group of photos at the International Art Show “Expo Punta Arte” in Punta del Este, Uruguay. In March 2014 the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo had a private showing of his exhibition titled “American Pacific Coast”, and in May of that year, the same collection was shown in the Figari Salon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uruguay. In January 2015 Marcelo opened his own photographic studio in Uruguay. In November of that same year, the exhibition titled “Coastal Postcards” was inaugurated in the Figari Salon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay. In April 2016 Marcelo launched his professional photography website “www.gonzalezcalero.com”. In March 2017, in celebration of the International Month of Francophonie, Marcelo inaugurated a new exhibition of photos of the majestic “Santos Palace” in Carmelo, Uruguay, and in April 2017 it was presented at the Katara Cultural Center in Doha, Qatar. Marcelo spent the month of June 2017 collaborating with Panamanian artist Olga Sinclair in the creation of a new set of artworks, which were unveiled to the public in August 2017 in Panama, and also in California, USA in November. In December 2017, embarking on a new path in regards to style, Marcelo presented his newest collection titled “Geo/metrías” in Montevideo, Uruguay.
