City aims to fix feral cat problem Edmonton has a cat fight on its hands. But a proposed program aims to claw down the mounting numbers of feral felines. TNR — trap, neuter, return — is a two-year pilot aiming to fix the city’s feral cat numbers, estimated at 44,000 to 66,000 and growing. “It’s a new philosophy,” said Tammy Francis, community relations adviser with the city. Francis hopes the program will kick off by fall. “It is going to change some of their nuisance behaviour. The tomcat’s not going to come and spray your patio furniture and

Alberta and feds will spend $90M on housing The Alberta and federal governments will spend almost $90 million on affordable housing units — and 440 of them will be in Edmonton. The money will help house 1,600 families, seniors and people with disabilities in Edmonton, Calgary, Beaumont, Red Deer, Spruce Grove, Whitecourt and Wetaskiwin. The project includes new housing units, the renovation of rental units and developing secondary suites. The move is part of a goal to create 11,000 housing units for low-income and homeless Albertans by 2012. METRO
