The phrase “best kept secret� may be a bit overused these days, but Harrison Hot Springs really is a hidden gem. Just a 90minute drive east of Vancouver, you’ll find some of the most spectacular mountain scenery serving as a backdrop for the sandy beaches of picturesque Harrison Lake. Despite all this natural beauty, the real draw of this quaint little village is the world famous healing waters of the mystical hot springs themselves. how managed to finally land this pre-historic giant. Myself, and my trusty fishing guide, barely managed to lift the six-foot long monster out of the water before quickly letting him go. Sturgeons are protected under a catch-and-release program, so there’s a pretty good chance of catching one. As we headed back to the resort as the sun was setting, bald eagles circled overhead as a mother black bear did some fishing of her own on a nearby sandbar. Hard to believe all this is here to behold, and just a stone’s throw from Vancouver. Well worth a weekend getaway for city folks.
