Boston to test later hours for food trucks Workin’ on our night food. In response to calls from the food truck community, city officials said they plan to roll out a new pilot program.

A yearlong test run kicking off on April 1 will expand hours for food trucks on Boylston Street near the Boston Public Library, Commonwealth Avenue in front of Morse Auditorium and Opera Place near Northeastern University, according to the city’s Office of Food Initiatives.

Currently, food trucks in Boston’s residential areas may only remain open until 9 p.m., while trucks in more urban areas are allowed to serve until

11 p.m.

The 11 p.m. to midnight time period is a bustling one for night owl Bostonians, which is why law enforcement has hesitated to expand hours.

“It’s that time period when people are out and have had a good amount to drink, and there is the possibility of them engaging in an argument,” said Edith Murnane, director of the Office of Food Initiatives.

“With food trucks being outdoors, [food trucks] could be a natural magnet for that,” said Murnane.

But if Bostonians can behave themselves over the next year, they could be rewarded with an expansion of the later hours.

The pilot program comes as a local Boston food blogger is petitioning for more food trucks in Boston.

While Leibowitz said spots like Downtown Crossing, Fenway and TD Garden deserve food trucks, Murnane said

the inclusion of food trucks in those areas is not impossible, but would require a lot of hashing out.

The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, the Red Sox and TD Garden, as well as law enforcement, would have a place at the table when it comes to making those decisions, she said.

“It’s a slightly more complex issue than just putting a food truck in those areas,” Murnane said. “But one of the best things about Boston is its civic engagement. I love getting these [petitions]. The more people that give input, the better I’m able to go to the TD Garden or the Red Sox and say, ‘How do we go about getting a food truck in this area?’”

Deadly fight. Man killed after stabbing near hotel

A man was fatally stabbed after a fight broke out following a large party at a Dorchester hotel over the weekend.

Boston police said the fight at the DoubleTree Hotel on Mt. Vernon Street spilled into the street at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Two men were

stabbed, taken to a hospital and one of them later died.

Police also are investigating a second stabbing that took place in the neighborhood hours later. Another man died after being stabbed near 744 Washington St. at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. MICHAEL NAUGHTON

Catholic school drops out of Saint Patrick’s parade Meeting. MassEquality officials met with Mayor Walsh and parade organizers, but no agreement was reached.

As discussions between a statewide LGBT advocacy group and the organizers of South Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade continued, a Catholic school from Harvard has decided to drop out because of efforts to make the parade more inclusive to pro-gay organizations.

MassEquality said on Monday that it has applied, as it had in years past, to march in the South Boston parade, and was denied this year. But at Mayor Marty Walsh’s urging, a meeting took place Sunday night between the group, Rep. Stephen Lynch and the parade’s organizer.

“We made it clear to the parade organizers that we would only march if LGBT people are able to march openly and honestly,” MassEquality Executive Director Kara Coredini said in a statement on Monday. “No agreement was reached, but the conversation is ongoing.”

At issue is that parade organizers are willing to allow

groups to march, but to do so without any signs or displays referencing gay advocacy or sexual orientation.

One group that supports gay rights, the South Boston Association of Non-Profits, said it will adhere to those conditions and will march, according to the Globe. That move to allow a pro-gay group to march led to the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Harvard dropping out of the parade after participating for nearly 25 years.

Walsh has said he will only march in an “inclusive” parade.

Former Mayor Thomas Menino did not march in the parade.

The Allied War Veterans Council, which puts on the parade, won a 1995 U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed the private group to exclude gay, lesbian and other groups from the parade.

Peavy slices finger with knife Without question, starter Jake Peavy has had the strangest offseason of any Red Sox player. It began with Peavy purchasing a Duck Boat during Boston’s championship parade and ended in less desirable fashion as he sliced open his left index finger, on his non-throwing hand, with a fishing knife last Saturday.

The fiery righty said that he cut the digit on a fishing trip with his son.

“I promised my little boy I would take him fishing so we went to Bass Pro [Shops] and we bought us some rods and reels,” Peavy told WEEI. com’s Rob Bradford. “[The injury happened] trying to cut the wire tie that was holding them together. Using the knife with my right hand and holding the rod with my left, and when I broke the wire tire it struck the knuckle pretty good.”

won the World Series that year and the Red Sox fielded a 95win second place team. But the worn-down Sox were swept in the ALDS by the Angels and another ALCS between the bitter rivals never took place.

For my money, Sox-Yanks hasn’t truly felt like Sox-Yanks since 2006. That was the year the Yankees came into Fenway in August and completed a mega-sweep of the Sox, winning all five games of a five-game series. Playing in that series for the Yankees were true hardball heels like Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Jorge Posada and Randy Johnson. Likewise, New York fans couldn’t stand the sight of Kevin Youkilis, Manny Ramirez, Curt Schilling or Josh Beckett at the time.

Lately, when the Red Sox and Yankees meet, it’s been hatred in laundry only. Shane Victorino, Daniel Nava and Koji Uehara may get booed in the Bronx and Lyle Overbay, Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki and Hiroki Kuroda may have been jeered in Boston last year.

But those types don’t exactly “move the dial,” as they say in the biz.

So, one could say that we are due for some solid SoxYanks storylines. Fortunately, 2014 will be filled with some legitimate subplots. Jacoby Ellsbury turned his back on Boston and landed in New York. The Yankees, after saying they weren’t going to spend big, returned to their roots and spent big. Red Sox fans will be able to walk into Yankee Stadium all summer, saying that they are the defending champions and the Yankees are the ones with a title drought. Derek Jeter is retiring and his last regular season game is scheduled for Sept. 28 at Fenway. Yankees president Randy Levine and Sox CEO Larry Lucchino are even bickering again, with Levine recently saying that Lucchino is “spooked by the Yankees.” All is good. But most important, both teams are expected to be good this year.

Immediately behind them are the defending champs at 15-1.

It’s been 10 years since the last Boston-New York ALCS and it’s high time we run it back.
