It’s not for another month, but the 15th annual Doors Open Toronto has just released the participating locations in this year’s lineup, making it the talk of the town. This is one of the best ways to get to know the Toronto that you’re quite literally not allowed to see any other time of the year. This year’s theme is Secrets and Spirits: Exploring the Mysteries Behind the Door. Not sure why they’re pushing a Halloween theme in May, but we’re still in.
What can’t Dallas Green do? The former frontman of Alexisonfire is now performing at the ACC. (That’s right, indie has come a long way to be selling out arenas.) Playing with MTL indie band Half Moon Run, this show has been pegged by many in the music industry as a can’t-miss. We suggest you buy your tickets now or start searching Craigslist for a missed connection with an extra seat.
With more than 175 participating venues throughout the city, you’re going to be making Contact whether you intend to or not. But you should definitely try making an effort to see some of the 1500 national and international artists on display on purpose. The list of participants and locations is already out, so pick and choose the art that inspires you most. After all, this is the biggest photography event in the world.

An elegant social fundraising event that mixes the sophistication of James Bond with the culinary delights of its host city and also happens to be held in a unique location? Yup, we’re in. The Bond Affair Pop-Up Dinner Series is being held tonight at the Bata Show Museum and will feature a four-course menu prepared by a top industry chef. All proceeds from the event will benefit Literature for Life.
We promise this is classier than it sounds. It’s in support of women’s breast cancer research. A series of unique, one-off craft beers will be tapped in honour of the event, with all proceeds being donated to PYNK, a breast cancer program for young women under 40 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. If you love beer and you hate cancer, this is definitely where you want to be on Sunday.
Call it a fad all you want, but gluten-free eating isn’t going away anytime soon. Buying into it, however, might just help make that wheat belly of yours disappear altogether. Go see and taste for yourself whether or not cutting out gluten can still provide you with the flavour and options you’ve been presenting your palate for years. Hundreds of products will be available.
