Since 1977, Community Natural Foods has been the go-to place for those on top of health food trends. And gluten-free is no exception. The store carries a wide variety of gluten-free products, and the café in its 10th Avenue S.W. location features at least one nongluten pizza choice each day. 1304 – 10th Ave. S.W. 202 – 61th Ave. S.W.
This small but funky and friendly bakery specializes in tasty treats such as chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, cakes, brownies and muffins. But it also sells loaves of bread, buns, frozen pizza crusts and gluten-free flour. The shop is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. 1510 – 6th St. S.W.
This trendy Mission watering hole boasts a delicious tapas menu. From salmon nachos, salads and sandwiches to a rich risotto cake, each mouth-watering dish is completely free of wheat. And you can wash your dinner down with gluten-free beers, including New Grist and Estrella Damm Daura. 1410 – 4th St. S.W.
Originally called the purified Water Store, the owners started adding gluten-free products after their daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease. They have more than 2,000 gluten-free items — including condiments, cheeses and pasta — available online at calgaryglutenfree.com and about 1,500 in store. 315, 2555 – 32th St. N.E.
Owner Sheena McFarlane was diagnosed with Celiac disease five years ago. She got so sick of running around the city looking for items on her grocery list she started her own glutenfree food business. The store is open seven days a week and has about 2,000 different products. 222, 40 Country Hills Landing N.W.
