Ottawa police chief Vern White thanked citizens of Vanier yesterday for alerting police to drug dealing — which led officers to making a $2.7 million bust. "This is probably the most important drug investigations in Ottawa in 20 years," said White of Project Sleepwalker, which involved the officers with the OPS, RCMP and OPP. Police arrested 22 people, who were all part of an organized crime group that was previously unknown to police. "Although the individuals had criminal records, the group as a whole was really not on our radar screen. This investigation began with a community making complaints about drug dealing and prostitution on Montreal Road," said Laviolette.
