Met PGA Foreword This summer, the Met PGA was blessed to conduct all our championships, events, and activities. As you’ll see throughout this issue, Met PGA Professionals were somehow able to compete at a high level despite the continuance of incredible activity levels at clubs and golf courses throughout the area. Nick Yaun and Brae Burn Country Club once again hosted our opening Stroke Play event. This one-day tournament and sponsor gathering was an uplifting start to the season and an early opportunity for the Met PGA family to be together. Our match play championships, the Long Island and Westchester PGA’s, were played at Cold Spring Country Club and Country Club of New Canaan thanks to Jim Weiss and Adam Rainaud. We were unable to hold these championships in 2020 and there was a tremendous sense of satisfaction in doing so this spring. The Head Pro Championship and Met PGA Women’s Championships continue to enjoy the support of Polo/ Ralph Lauren and this year’s events, hosted by Ryan George at Rockaway Hunting Club, were tremendous successes. Huntington Crescent was an incredible test for our Metropolitan PGA Professional Championship and the event ran smoothly thanks to Patrick McCarthy and his team. Lincoln’s sponsorship of the Met PGA reaches across our entire tournament program. In July, the beneficiaries were the participants in the Women’s Met Open Championship hosted by James Ondo and the Apawamis Club. Bethpage Black didn’t disappoint in pushing the best players in the state to the limit in the Lenox Advisors/NFP New York State Open Championship. Ray Ford and Rolling Hills CC hosted the Met PGA Senior Championship. The Assistant’s Tour also had a busy schedule, conducting events at: Saint Andrew’s, Village Club of Sands Point, Redding CC, Nissequogue GC, St. George’s, Hollow Brook, Spook Rock, and Tamarack CC. The Met PGA Foundation was equally busy, conducting Junior Tour events, PGA Junior League, and Drive, Chip & Putt qualifiers. We also assisted the Village Club of Sands Point in conducting the first annual Lighthouse Cup, an initiative developed by club member Chris Callahan and PGA Director of Golf Karl Obermeyer. As we move from summer to fall, we are excited to continue administering tournaments, finishing a difficult season with positivity and optimism about what lies ahead. Please enjoy greater detail, including photos and video of these and other Section activities in this edition of Met PGA FORECAST! Jeff Voorheis Met PGA Executive Director
