RE-STATEMENT OF VISION, MISSION, VALUES
by Rev Derrick Lau, Executive Director of MMS
In the last issue of Harvest Force, I presented the restructured organisation chart. It was the fruit of our discussions at the MMS Leaders’ Summit in August 2022. The MMS leaders also firmed up the revised MMS Vision, Mission, and Core Values.
After 30 years of field-focused ministries development, MMS leaders embarked upon an exercise in 2022 to review her strategic thrust and operational framework. It necessitated a God-focused obedience, disciplined approach, unity in spirit, and a clear articulation of:
• What we are? (Role of MMS as a denominational agency)
• Who we are? (Vision, mission, and values statements)
• How we operate? (Organisation, Attributes, Engagement, Collaboration)
After much prayer and extensive engagement with our stakeholders that included MMS ExCo members, Annual Conference leaders, Directors, Missionaries, field ministry leaders, Sub-Committee members, local church pastors, missions leaders, organisations, and donors, we are pleased to share how we see our role and a re-statement of our Vision, Mission, and Core Values:
Role of MMS as a Denominational Agency
• Champion field development through a clear mission roadmap & strategy, and equipping of field clergy and lay leadership.
• Optimise human capital and financial resources for service of the field.
• Accentuate the growth and development of missions across the denomination.
• Cultivate an ethos of missionary care and empathetic support.
• Track within a robust system of governance, stewardship, and accountability.
MMS Vision:
A mobilised Methodist community establishing disciple-making and multiplying indigenous churches within its reach.
Mission Statement:
We engage Methodist Churches & Communities to participate in missions, guided by a strategic roadmap, to transform lives through planting indigenous churches and community development.
Core Values:
Collectively, we serve in obedience to the Great Commission with:
• Personal and Social Holiness.
• Responsiveness to God’s calling and diligence in seeking His will.
• Unity in the Spirit through the bond of peace.
• A mindset of embracing missions initiatives across the Methodist community.
• Compassion and cultural sensitivity for the people in the field.
• Boldness in faith, commitment, and accountability in ministries.
