cincinnati zoo Nikko, Japan’s three wise simians warn all to hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil. Mischievous monkeys once played in the Cincinnati Zoo’s seven Japanese pagoda style cages designed by local architect James McLaughlin in 1875 to hold birds. Only one of these historic structures remains, and since 1972 serves as a memorial to Martha, the world’s last passenger pigeon, and as a warning of the impending extinction of several endangered species.
