INTRODUCTION MSP recognises and values the commitment made by the workforce of professionals and volunteers - across the Liverpool City Region - who provide sport and physical activity opportunities. MSP’s Active Learning programme aims to: • provide development opportunities which support individuals enhance their skills, knowledge, understanding and confidence in delivering sport or physical activity • support clubs, groups and other organisations working towards or maintaining recognised quality standards such as Clubmark

SAFEGUARDING & PROTECTING CHILDREN Wednesday 25th April 2018 Wednesday 16th May 2018 Wednesday 6th June 2018 (at Everton Sports Park) Wednesday 18th July 2018 Wednesday 22nd August 2018 Wednesday 19th September 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £40 Protect yourself, the young people you are coaching and your employer by understanding and following good coaching practice. Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations if you have concerns. This workshop will help you, as the coach to: • identify good coaching practice to promote a positive relationship with children • identify sport situations and coaching practice that might constitute either poor practice or possible abuse • identify ways of dealing with your own feelings about child abuse and state what constitutes neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse • recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse and appreciate why reporting it is often so difficult • identify appropriate action if a child discloses he/she has been abused • identify appropriate action if abuse is suspected and explain the role and responsibilities of other experts (e.g. police, social services) • describe appropriate practice that reduces the likelihood of abuse occurring

EMERGENCY FIRST AID - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) & SAFE USE OF AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) - FAA LEVEL 2

Wednesday 9th May 2018 Wednesday 13th June 2018 Wednesday 5th September 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £50 A range of subjects are covered including: responsibilities and reporting, assessment of the situation, dealing with an unresponsive casualty, infection control, resuscitation, AED functions, de-fibrillation procedures and safety measures. Learning outcomes the learner will: • be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally • be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally • know how to safely use an automated external defibrillator • be able to safely use an automated external defibrillator

PERSONAL SAFETY/MANAGING VIOLENCE & AGGRESSION Wednesday 23rd May 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £45 To ensure that staff and volunteers understand that policies and procedures have to be adhered to, ensure that all staff understands what violence and aggression is and be able to complete a risk assessment before commencing work. By the end of the course the staff will be able to: • understand why guidelines have to be followed • ensure a safe working practice for staff • identify where violence and aggressive incidents have occurred • make use of any security measure provided • ensure that all documentation are completed and copies given to the agency

RISK ASSESSMENT & MANAGEMENT Wednesday 20th June 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £45 To provide attendees with the instruction and practical activity to enable them to carry out generic risk assessments within their sector, provide a legislative framework from which they should develop their practice. By the end of the course the attendees will be able to: • recount the legislative framework governing risk assessment, identify the five stages in risk assessment and management • identify the five stages in risk assessment and management • develop a risk assessment within the classroom, sports hall etc • evaluate and amend existing risk assessments and understand the importance of continuing evaluation, review of risk and risk assessment

MOVING & HANDLING

Wednesday 11th July 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £45 Back injury is the major reason for absence from the workplace, the aim of this course is to train all staff to handle people in a safe manner enabling them to reduce the risk and enabling participants to understand why it is important to complete risk assessments before moving and handling. Objectives: • identify the legislation that applies to moving and handling and describe the responsibilities employees and their employers have • understand the risk assessment process. Explain and use the principles of safe moving and handling • identify the effects of poor handling on employees • to understand why certain techniques are classed as unsafe • understand the importance of good posture and exercise to back care • use approved techniques for moving and handling tasks relevant to work • safely use mechanical aids available in their workplace • explain the importance of promoting mobility and independence

HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORK

Wednesday 15th August 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £45 To provide participants with the instruction and learning opportunity to develop a good working knowledge of the issues of health and safety at work legislation and practice. You will be able to: • identify major pieces of legislation governing health and safety • recognise their role in ensuring a safe work environment • recount the employee’s responsibilities • recount their own responsibilities in law and understand the reporting processes and the requirements in law for reporting accidents

HEALTH & NUTRITION Wednesday 12th September 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £45 To provide instruction and guidance on the management of good nutrition and the methods used in measuring the status of service users level of nutrition. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to: • identify the major food groups • indicate the relative proportions of each in a healthy diet • be able to measure and calculate the body mass index of any individual • be able to recognise the indicators or poor nutrition by using body mass index (BMI) and other measures and identify the correct procedures should any indicator of poor nutrition be present

EQUITY IN YOUR COACHING Wednesday 25th September 2018 6:00pm - 9:00pm Greenbank Sports Academy £40 Everyone should have access to sport, regardless of gender, age, race, ability, faith or sexual orientation. As a coach, you have an important role to play in ensuring this happens. The workshop will help you to apply and extend your existing skills to meet the needs of present and potential participants. This workshop will help you, the coach to: • explain what equity means and why it is important • identify barriers to participation, use appropriate language and terminology • identify and challenge inequitable behaviour • interpret the legal framework that affects coaching • identify how you can become more equitable • establish where to go for further information

Club Matters provides free, convenient, practical resources to help you develop and run a sustainable club. • resource library (templates, guides, policies & codes) • online modules • Club Improvement tool • Club Views resource • Club Matters social • Start a club tool (market research, committee guidance & structure) Club Matters online modules: The online modules are approximately 30-40 minutes in length and it’s recommended you use headphones to listen to the audio. CLUBMARK

Clubmark is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports clubs. • it shows that a club provides the right environment, which ensures the welfare of members and encourages everyone to enjoy sport and stay involved throughout their lives • clubs have to be affiliated to their National Governing Bodies (NGB) • the NGB has to be recognised by Sport England • Clubmark accreditation lasts for 2 years (some NGB sport specific accreditations can last between 1-4 years) If you would like more information on Club Matters or Clubmark, please visit and sign up at www.sportenglandclubmatters.com
