Wirral Sport Rovers boss Moor salutes response to Leyton Orient

from a poor performance in the 3-1 home defeat in Millwall the previous weekend. Moore said: “The way we played compared to the last game was like chalk and cheese. It was a brilliant response from the lads. “We were the best side in the first half and perhaps we were

unlucky not to have more than one goal to show from being on top. Give Orient credit for coming back and putting us under pressure. We defended well in the second half. “Orient will probably be a little bit disappointed not to have got something when you look at their near misses but

take nothing away from our lads. I think we came here and did a great job.” The result gave Tranmere a haul of 10 points from their last four away games in League One, which is four more than

Emergency scrum half helps Caldy to glory then hangs up boots CALDY got another glimpse of the future in their second cup clash of the week – this time away to Earlsdon in the EDF Energy National Trophy.

Just as against Birkenhead Park in the Cheshire Cup, the Wirral team took the opportunity to blood academy players, with JJ Dickinson and Andy Barnish both doing well off the bench in the 45-10 victory. Meanwhile, at the other end of the age scale, Christian Saverimutto, pictured right, hung up his boots following a man-of-the-match performance as an emergency scrum half, following cryoffs and injuries.

By NEIL MACDONALD Director of rugby Tony Atherton said: “This was a difficult game against a team who were very enthusiastic, so I am pleased we came through so well. “Our Academy lads were raring to go and Savi showed just what a good player and club man he is by playing so well at scrum half.”

Caldy went 3-0 down thanks to a Chris Scott penalty after five minutes, but struck back when Sam Dickinson scored a try and Gavin Roberts converted. On 26 minutes, front row forwards Gavin Woods and Ian Critchley combined, with Critchley making the break that put Woods in for the score, Roberts again converting. Ed Keen got one back for the home team, making it

10-14, but on 40 minutes, Saverimutto broke from a tap penalty and sent in the supporting Shaun Woof, with Roberts’ conversion making it 21-10 at the break. Earlsdon worked hard to stay in contention for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but after then it was oneway traffic with Neil Dowridge, Sam Dickinson, Jake Lyon and Andy Soutar scoring tries, and Roberts converting twice, to make it 45-10 at the final whistle. Caldy return to National League Three North action next week, with a home game against Leicester Lions, kick-off at 3pm.

SOLIHULL ended victorious in this bottom-of-the-table clash at Damson Park. Moors had the first couple of chances – firstly Lee Collins and then Andy Ducros, but both efforts were well saved by Motors keeper James Coates. On 18 minutes, the Motormen took the lead when on-loan striker Nick Rogan waltzed down the right with a great run and his cross was put into the net by Moors defender Simon Travis. Motors lead was short-lived as four minutes later, a poor back pass from Alan Griffiths was too short for Coates and Andy Ducros nipped in to coolly slot the ball home for the equaliser. Moors took the lead on 67 minutes, when a free-kick was floated in by Phil Midworth and Marcus Palmer reacted quickest to fire into the corner from eightyards out. Solihull extended their lead on 78 minutes, when no-one closed
