PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE The Parks & Recreation Committee serves as an advisory board to the Parks & Recreation Department and to the Town Council on matters related to Parks & Recreation programs, services, and facilities. This Committee typically meets on the third Wednesday of every month. REGISTRATION INFORMATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 1. All programs are offered on a “first come – first serve” basis in person, online or mail-in registration. 2. All programs operate on a self-supporting basis. The Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel classes that do not support themselves. Registrations are accepted and confirmed when you submit your completed registration form and enrollment fee. Waiting lists will be taken as classes reach their maximum enrollment. 3. Online registrations allow you to create your one-time family account. Once a family account is created, all future registrations with Merrimack Parks & Recreation would simply require you to log in and select the appropriate family member from your profile to register for a particular program, event, activity or camp session. Your family account allows you to view what programs you have registered for, make credit card payments for registered programs or view your payment history. 4. Registration forms and payment should be mailed to: Merrimack Parks & Recreation, 116 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054 5. Non-residents are allowed to sign up for any program offered by the Parks & Recreation Department. WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, CANCELLATION AND TRANSFERS 1. Participants who wish to withdraw from a program must notify the Parks & Recreation Department at least ten (10) days prior to the start of the program. All program cancellations will be assessed a $10.00 administrative processing fee. All refunds will be issued in the form of a check from the Town of Merrimack and may take up to two (2) weeks to process. 2. Refunds may be given for medical reasons which arise less than ten (10) days prior to the start of a program. The request must be accompanied by a physician’s letter. In the event that a medical issue arises after the start of the program, the refund will be prorated. 3. If a program is cancelled due to low enrollment, participants will receive a full refund. 4. Participants will be permitted, if space allows, a transfer to another program. Should the program the participant is transferring into have a higher fee, they will be expected to remit the difference in fee at the time of requesting the transfer. Checks should be made payable to the TOWN OF MERRIMACK There is a $25.00 service fee for all returned checks. MERRIMACK YOUTH ASSOCIATION The Merrimack Youth Association (MYA) is a volunteer non-profit organization that the Town of Merrimack contracts with to provide recreational sports opportunities to Merrimack youth in Town. The MYA currently provides eight different sports for the community including: baseball, softball, basketball, football, spirit club, soccer, lacrosse and wrestling. Each program has its own Board of Directors and all programs report monthly to the Executive Board who oversees all MYA programming and corresponds with the town accordingly. O’LEARY COMMUNITY CENTER Located at 4 Church Street in Merrimack, the John O’Leary Adult Community Center is available to host your event or business meeting for 20 to 200 people. Let our comfort and style transform your event into an exciting special occasion. Our distinctive location is in the center of Merrimack, behind the Merrimack Public Library and next to the First Congregational Church of Merrimack, near the intersection of Daniel Webster Highway and Baboosic Lake Road,. The facility offers a unique, comfortable and fully-appointed setting in which to host your next function. The center offers Wi-Fi access, a flat-screen TV, features a clean modern full kitchen for re-warming prepared foods, and is fully air-conditioned, heated and handicap accessible. SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB The Club's purpose is to serve the best interests of the town's seniors, to develop social interest and feeling of true friendship within the Club, and to be energetic in support of federal and state legislation to benefit senior citizens. Activities include meetings, bingo, bridge, a variety of bus trips, sewing, crafts, cribbage, whist, blitz and chair yoga. The club meets on Mondays at 1:00pm (except on holidays) at the John O'Leary Adult Community Center. The center's hours are Monday to Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm. Members must be 55 years of age or older and a Merrimack resident. Annual membership fee is $20.00. For more information, contact Irene Jenness at (603) 424-2362.


MERRIMACK CONCERT ASSOCIATION The Merrimack Concert Association celebrated their 20th Anniversary in 2016. They offer amateur or professional musicians an artistic, recreational, and educational experience through the rehearsal and performance of a wide variety of instrumental and vocal music; to provide the residents of the area quality yet inexpensive entertainment. The Merrimack Concert Association performs three times a year (Winter, Spring and July 3rd). This organization provides the opportunity to sing in an intergenerational choir, to dust off that old instrument from middle school or to meet new friends (or rediscover old friends). MERRIMACK SKATE BOARD PARK —IN MEMORY OF MICHAEL L. FLERRA— The Merrimack Parks and Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Merrimack Skate Park on O'Gara Drive. This use-at-your-own-risk facility typically opens in April and remains open through October, as weather permits. Bicycles, roller skates, roller blades , skateboards, scooters and other nonmotorized vehicles are allowed at the O’Gara Drive Skate Park. For safety reasons, the skate park will be closed if it is raining. There is no attendant on duty and the Town of Merrimack is not responsible for lost or stolen items or any injury or accident incurred during the use of the Skate Park. (NH RSA 507-B:11) The Skate Park will be open daily from Dawn - Dusk thru the end of October and is monitored by the Merrimack Police Department. In case of injury, emergency or to report unlawful acts, CALL 911 or (603) 424-3774. MERRIMACK DOG PARK WASSERMAN PARK After more than 10 years in the making, the Merrimack Dog Park is now open to the general public. The Dog Park is located adjacent to the visitors parking lot (near the park’s exit) at Wasserman Park and is open to both residents & nonresidents (free of charge) from sunrise to sunset. Users of this facility do so at their own risk. The Town will not be held liable for any injury or damage caused by any dog on Town property. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Join the Parks & Recreation Department for our final free movie night of the year at Abbie Griffin Park with the movie "Trolls" (Rescheduled from 7/7) This fun animated movie is perfect for the whole family! This hilarious film transports audiences to a colorful, wondrous world populated by trolls. The movie follows the story of Poppy, the happiest troll ever born and Branch, the less optimistic grumpy troll. The two set off on a journey to rescue the other trolls from invaders. The film also features great music! Movie is rated PG. A special Thank You to the Lions Club of Merrimack for sponsoring our movie night.

Bring the whole family out to Wasserman Park for this year’s Spooktacular event featuring a night of food, carnival games, face painting, pumpkin carving demonstrations, crafts, not so scary stories, music, and the highlight of the evening our Costume Contest. New this year, we will also be adding an Adult Costume contest. The Annual Halloween Party event is Co-Sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department and the Merrimack Police Department. NOVEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS TURKEY SCAVENGER HUNT HUNT SATURDAY, NOV 18th 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Fee: $5.00 per family Join us for this fun new family event and compete for the chance to win a free frozen turkey for Thanksgiving! We will be hiding turkey shaped cutouts throughout Merrimack. Your job is to find as many cut outs as you can! All participants must be pre-registered and will meet at 10:00 am at Wasserman Park. When you arrive that morning you will be given a scavenger hunt card and a list of the clues. Once you have the clues it’s up to you and your family to drive around and find as many turkeys as you can. At each individual turkey there will be special sticker to affix to your game card. When you visit the turkey you will grab a sticker and add it to your card. The first three participants to return to Wasserman Park with the most stickers on their card will win a 16 pound Thanksgiving turkey! Advanced registration is required.

24TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARADE & CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3RD 2017 PARADE THEME - “A Whoville Christmas” Parade: 3:00 pm

The Annual Holiday Parade will kick off from the Commons Shopping Plaza (515 Daniel Webster Highway) at 3:00 pm. The parade will travel down Daniel Webster Highway to Baboosic Lake Road. It will turn right onto Baboosic Lake Road and then turn left onto McElwain Street and end at the Town Hall parking lot. The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin with the arrival of Santa & Mrs. Claus to Abbie Griffin Park at approximately 3:45pm.

Santa or Mrs. Claus will be calling Merrimack children on Tuesday, December 12th & Wednesday, December 13th between the hours of 5:30pm—8:00pm. If Santa misses you, he will try again at a later time. BOSTON RED SOX VS. HOUSTON ASTROS BUS TRIP Soak up the rich history, hear the echoes of the past and join the Merrimack Parks & Recreation Department as we travel to Fenway Park for the final home game of the season before the playoffs begin! "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" is a place where dreams are made, traditions are celebrated and baseball is forever. Traveling to Fenway Park on your own is not easy. Between the traffic and the high cost of parking around Fenway its difficult and expensive to navigate. Let us handle the transportation so you can sit back and enjoy the game. Cost of the trip is $75 per person and fee includes Motorcoach transportation provided by MBT Transportation and a ticket to the game. Tickets are in Section 43 in rows 12 - 16. CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP Enjoy the magic wonder and allure of New York City at Christmas time on this fantastic 1 day trip to the Big Apple. We'll depart early this morning from Wasserman Park to make our way to downtown Manhattan. The streets and shops of New York are full of energy and holiday shoppers. We'll drop you off in the Rockefeller Plaza area of mid-town Manhattan. Once here you may want to explore at your own pace sights such as St. Patrick's Cathedral, Times Square, Top of the Rock, NBC Studio Tour, or others. You may decide to take in the great shopping on Madison or 5th Avenue! You'll have plenty of time to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Plaza, and stroll out in front of Sak's 5th Avenue. You may even want to take in a matinee show of the Radio City Rockettes! ADULT PROGRAMS INTRODUCTORY ARCHERY CLINIC Pull back a string and let go of stress and feel the satisfaction of the sound of the arrow hitting the target and more so, when we are shooting at balloons. Let the challenges of the day melt away as you learn an ancient sport. Archery is a life long sport as where other sports we tend to age or injury out of. Sign up with a friend, a family member and enjoy the time together. All equipment is provided and the program will be held at the Archery range at Wasserman Park. Course will be taught by Coach Lucy; owner of the New England School of Archery. Date: Tuesday, Sept 12th Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm Fee: $15.00 BARRE BODY FITNESS Barre body is a ballet inspired fitness class that will strengthen and tone the entire body. It is a comprehensive total body workout that tones your legs, glutes, abs and arms all while burning fat using stability and Pilates based exercises. Movements are typically small and easy on the joints. Although barre is low impact it does not mean low energy. No experience is necessary and modifications can be made for all fitness levels. No equipment is required but a yoga mat is recommended. Class runs will be held in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park and will be taught by certified instructor Shannon Daniel. It is an amazing aerobic experience that utilizes martial arts-based kickboxing techniques to increase muscular strength, cardiovascular conditioning, coordination, and balance. No experience is necessary and modifications can be made for all fitness levels. Class will be held in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park and will be taught by certified Cardio Kickboxing instructor Shannon Daniel. It provides a great overall workout, strengthens the upper body and core muscles while increasing balance and stability. SUP It is easy to learn and provides the opportunity to experience the beauty of our waterways without disrupting the natural environment around us. Class will be taught by staff from Anakalia SUP. WILDERNESS FIRST AID & SAFETY Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one and maybe even save a life. Wilderness First Aid is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of wilderness first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. The 16 hour long (two-day) program focuses on the skills of: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. Those who complete the course and pass the written and practical skills will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification from SOLO which is valid for 2 years. SOLO is among the leaders in Wilderness Medicine Training and certification. Coffee and snacks will be provided each day. *An optional CPR course will be offered on Saturday evening for an additional fee of $35 for those who are interested. FAMILY PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES SKYWATCH WITH THE NH ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13TH 7:00 - 9:00 PM WASSERMAN PARK FUNCTION HALL Have you ever wanted to see the moon up close or identify the Big Dipper? You are invited to attend a FREE Skywatch in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park! A "Skywatch" is a gathering of amateur astronomers with a focus on outreach and education for the public at large. Members of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society will hold a brief indoor presentation about what you can expect to see thru the telescope and then everyone will head outside to view the stars. This years event coincides with the Geminid Meteor shower. Participants of all ages will have the opportunity to view the night sky through the telescopes. Advanced registrations required for this FREE event. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Thursday, December 14th.

4TH ANNUAL RECREATION PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Do you enjoy participating in recreation activities or visiting recreation areas? Be sure to bring your camera and capture the Fun! Participate in the 3rd Annual Recreation For All Seasons Photography Contest. We are seeking striking digital images that celebrate the Town of Merrimack’s Parks, Recreation & Open Space areas from all seasons of the year. We are looking for pictures taken within the Town of Merrimack that cover: ♦Parks, Trails, Waterways or Conservation Areas: Capture the every day beauty of a park, trail, waterway or Conservation areas. ♦Fun

in the Parks: Document a fun park activity; such as a recreation program, sporting event, concert, movie, people being active, etc.

♦Scenic,

Seasons & Landscapes: Capture scenic vistas and sweeping landscapes - fall foliage, forests, winter wonderlands, flowers, lakes, rivers and more. We will select a total of 3 photographs as winners from all of the entries received. One photograph will be featured on the cover of the Winter Brochure, one will appear on the Spring/Summer Brochure and one photograph will appear on the Fall Brochure. Your name will appear under the photo for credit. CONTEST RULES: Photo must be taken somewhere in the Town of Merrimack. By submitting your photograph in the contest, you grant the Town of Merrimack Parks & Recreation Department the right, in perpetuity, to use the photograph in future Parks & Recreation and Town of Merrimack publications. YOUTH PROGRAMS KIDS COOKING CLASS Join cooking instructor, Andrea Younie, for this new Healthy Hands Cooking Class. This 8 hour cooking program will teach participants, between the ages of 8 - 13, the foundations of nutrition and cooking skills for years to come. Students will learn kitchen safety, proper food storage, how to make healthy snacks, breakfasts, lunches and dinners. All supplies, instruction and inspiration will be provided! FALL ARCHERY PROGRAM WITH COACH LUCY Learn to shoot the bow and arrow and/or improve your shooting abilities! This class is taught by Lucy Morris, a National Level 4 Archery Coach from the New England School of Archery. Safety, proper shooting form, mental concentration and proper use of equipment are emphasized. Come and have fun sharing a life-long sport with your friends! YOUTH PROGRAMS HOME ALONE SAFETY CLASS Learn the basics of being safe when home alone for short periods of time. We’ll talk about how to answer the telephone and door, internet safety, first aid techniques, accident prevention and fire protection and more will be discussed. Youth will have a better understanding of responsibility & independence. This is an interactive class. Each student will receive a handbook. Class will be held in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park. The activities promote teamwork and critical thinking skills as kids investigate basic engineering concepts using DUPLOs. Build a seesaw, vehicle, and spinning top and other fun working mechanisms. Perfect for the young builder with tiny hands! Program is taught by instructors with Wicked Cool For Kids and will be held in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park. PARKS & RECREATION EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The Parks & Recreation Department is currently looking for Staff members to work this fall and winter as Program Counselors and Supervisors in our School Year programs which include Parent Night Out Programs, Vacation Week Programs, Teen Adventure Trips and more. Positions will offer 5 - 10 hours per week in the evenings and on Saturdays in a relaxed and fun filled environment working with children and teens. Minimum age to apply is 16+ except for our Teen Programs where the minimum age is 18+. DECEMBER VACATION WEEK Tuesday, December 26th – Friday, December 29th Come and join the Merrimack Parks & Recreation Staff during the December school vacation week for a program designed to keep your children busy and entertained all week long. The program will feature a variety of sports, games, arts & crafts projects, outdoor activities, movies, daily hot lunch and more. This program is held in the Function Hall at Wasserman Park and runs daily from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. This program is geared towards children ages 5 - 12. We also offer extended care from 4:00 - 5:30 pm for an additional fee. Sign up for all 4 days and save $20.00 or sign up by the day. Vacation Week Program Fee:

Location: 40 Walnut Hill Rd, Amherst, New Hampshire. YOUTH RIDING PROGRAM Join the instructors from Walnut Hollow Farm for an Introduction to Horseback riding for children ages 6 - 18 years of age. Participants will learn the basics of riding along with how to care for horses and the equipment used. Participants will also learn about dressage, hunter / jumper or 3 day evening disciplines. Classes are held at Walnut Hollow Farm in their indoor & outdoor arenas. Classes are offered Monday– Friday from 3:00—6:00 pm. Cost of the program $145 for four (4) lessons. Registration is open on a rolling basis. Advanced registration is required. PONY PALS Join instructors from Walnut Hollow Farm this Fall in their new Pony Pals Series. In this program geared towards children 5 - 8 years of age; participants will learn about animal care & safety along with nutrition, leading a horse, turnout, grooming and bathing a horse, barn care and a braiding clinic. The key objectives will underscore the commitment in keeping animals safe and sound as well as animal handlers. In the event of rain/snow program will be rescheduled to the following week. TEEN PROGRAMS TEEN NIGHTS Are your teens looking for an opportunity to hangout with friends and get out of the house for a few hours. Once a month throughout the fall we will be offering teens an opportunity to come relax with friends. Typical teen nights will include pizza and a movie but there will be plenty of time for the kids to hangout with friends or play games. We will have a staff member present to do check in and make sure the kids are having a good time. Open to anyone aged 12 - 16 years old! Advanced registration is required. TREK FALL ADVENTURES Once a month during the fall we will be offering bus trips geared specifically towards teens between the ages of 12 - 16 to various spots throughout New England! All trips will depart from Wasserman Park. SIX FLAGS NEW ENGLAND Date: Saturday, Sept 23 Fee: $75.00 Join us on this exciting trip to Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA. Teens will get to spend the day exploring the park and riding the rides. The bus for this trip will depart at 9:00am and kids will have 7 hours to ride and explore the park. Six Flags is home to some of the best roller coasters in New England. Interested participants must pre-register by September 16th. Trip departs at 9:00 am and returns at approximately 8:00 pm. GUNSTOCK ADVENTURE PARK Date: Saturday, Oct 14 Fee: $75.00 Join us for this exciting outdoor adventure. The fee for this trip will include the 1.5 hour long zip line tour through the beautiful woods of Gunstock. It also include access to mountain coaster and scenic chair lift which should be pretty amazing with the Fall foliage. Participants will get to spend 6 hours exploring these attractions. Interested participants must register by October 7th. Signed waiver required . Trip departs at 9:00 am and returns at 6:15 pm. MVP PAINTBALL

Date: Saturday, Nov 11 Fee: $60.00 Join us for a 3 hour game of paintball. The fee incudes all the rental equipment, 3-4 hours of paintball time, 500 paintballs, and plenty of space to play in. Interested participants must be pre-registered by November 4th. Signed waiver required. Trip departs at 9:30 am and returns at 2:00 pm.

BODA BORG ESCAPE QUEST Date: Saturday, Dec 9 Fee: $75.00 Are you ready to break out of prison, win a TV game show, explore a haunted house and run an obstacle course? You'll do that and so much more on our visit to Boda Borg. Each of their many Quests offers challenging fun for your team of 3-5 in an environment unlike anything you've experienced before. Each Quest consists of several rooms that take both mental and physical problem solving to move through. Fee will include 5 hours of questing time and an all you can eat Taco lunch. All interested participants must pre- register by December 2nd. Signed waiver form required. Trip departs at 9:30 am and returns at 6:00 pm.


FUNCTION HALL RENTALS The Function Hall at Wasserman Park is a multi-use facility for gathering of events such as organization meetings, event receptions, reunions, birthday parties, family picnics, and more. The Function Hall features a front room that can accommodate up to 100 people and a main room that can accommodate up to 200 people. It is often described as a “Campy” style building since that is its primary function. The rental hall fee also includes the use of 20 tables and 110 chairs. The Function Hall rental is available 7 days a week between 7:00am to 11:00pm. In 2016, the Town of Merrimack installed a brand new heating system, a new sprinkler system, new windows and installed a permanent water line to the building to allow it to be used on a year round basis.

All rentals require a certificate of liability insurance naming the Town of Merrimack as additionally insured. This is to protect you as well as the Town of Merrimack in the event of accidental damage.

BISHOP FIELD, 178 Baboosic Lake Road — This field contains soccer and lacrosse fields. DEPOT STREET BOAT RAMP, 20 Depot Street — Carry-in boating and fishing access to the Merrimack River. GIBSON MEMORIAL COMPLEX & MARTEL FIELD, 10 Atherton Road — This field contains Little League baseball fields and a softball diamond at Martel Field. HORSESHOE POND BOAT RAMP, 23 Island Drive — Trailer launched or carry-in boating. Horseshoe Pond is an ox-bow pond, created when the Merrimack River changed course & sediment buildup cut it off from the main channel of the river. JONATHAN SIMEONE MEMORIAL ATV PARK, Lawrence Road — This Town owned land is maintained by the New Hampshire Right Riders group. This park is open only to Merrimack residents and vehicles must display a Merrimack Transfer Station Sticker. KIDS KOVE PLAYGROUND, 487 Daniel Webster Highway — Children’s playground contains a maze of wooden climbing structures and is located within Twin Bridges Park. O’GARA DRIVE RECREATION AREA, 26 O’Gara Drive — A use-at-your-own-risk facility, the Skateboard Park is open from mid-April to mid-October and the Ice Skating Rink is open late-December/early January through early -March (weather permitting). REEDS FERRY SCHOOL FIELDS, 15 Lyons Road — This field contains five soccer fields, one youth baseball field two softball fields and one lacrosse field. TWARDOSKY FIELD, 44 Amherst Road — This field contains one softball field and two soccer fields. TWIN BRIDGE PARK, 487 Daniel Webster Highway — This Park includes the Kids Kove Playground, Little League baseball at Bise Field, basketball courts, picnic tables, scenic walking paths and the location of Merrimack Youth Association Headquarters. VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK & BOAT RAMP, 155 Camp Sargent Road — This field contains two youth baseball fields, one Babe Ruth multipurpose field, picnic tables and the Warriner Memorial Playground. Trailer launched or carry-in boating access to Naticook Lake for fishing is also available. WASSERMAN PARK, 116 Naticook Road — This Park offers extensive recreational activities such as picnicking, hiking, swimming, fishing, tennis, basketball, baseball, a Dog Park and the Norma French Playground. This is home of the Parks & Recreation Department and Naticook Day Camp. WATSON PARK, 441 Daniel Webster Highway — Activities featured at this Park include picnicking, scenic river views, access for carry-in boating and fishing, butterfly garden and the newly built Pavilion. WESTON PARK & RIVER ACCESS, 49 Turkey Hill Road — A lovely site for light hiking, picnicking winter sledding and also features a riverbank carry-in boating access to the Souhegan River for fishing.
