A weight training class specially designed for individuals age 50 and over. Class will meet 45 minutes twice a week and will cover cardiovascular, resistance, and flexibility exercises. For your safety, a short health history form and medical clearance will need to be completed before participating in any of the class sessions. Min. 6-Max. 15 Instructor: Terri Dixson

A fun unique sensory motor skill program. The program helps promote growth in physical, emotional, mental, social and cognitive developments. With music, this program raises the heart rate and works all extremities while utilizing the whole brain. Laugh, swat and tap your way to wellness.. Instructor: Terri Dixson

AARP Driver Safety Program


Ages 50+

(Ages 60+) This exercise program emphasizes safe and beneficial movements and routines that will increase your flexibility, strength and endurance. The program is held at the Irene B. French Community Center. Donations are accepted at each class. Registration is not required. Day(s): Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays Time: 10:00am Fee: $2 donation is suggested (Sponsored by the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging in partnership with the neighborhood Merriam Nutrition program, Merriam Parks and Recreation, and conducted by Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Program. Federally funded program thru “Older American Act.”)

Classroom instruction that refines existing skills and develops safe, defensive driving techniques. Produced by AARP and conducted in two half-day sessions, 55 Alive teaches preventive measures to use when driving that saves lives. Min. 10-Max. 24 Pre-registration is required with payment. Video games aren’t just for the young but the “young at heart.” Bring back the old arcade days . . . just 25 cents per day for 5weeks of FUN! Surprise your grandson or granddaughter when you learn how to play bowling, baseball, golf or tennis. It’s easy to learn and more importantly, a bunch of fun! Meet weekly every Friday morning, and let the games begin!

This historic tour will include stops, drive-bys and lots of Kansas City stories to include: Lewis & Clark’s Kaw Point, the birthplace of KC BBQ, Satchel Paige, KC’s first skyscraper, Nell Donnelly Reed, Santa Fe Trail swales, The Beatles, Charlie Parker, Walt Disney’s studio, Thomas Swope, his park, his alleged murder and much, much more! The tour guide, Bill Nicks, as “Octave Chanute,” the man who, in 1869, put KC on the map and 34 years later put the Wright Brothers in the air. Min. 30-Max. 51
