CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 'TOLLER DESIGN' BUR
Six Blades provide clean, fast cutting with minimum vibration.
Three Cutting Blades with very course cross-cut which prevents clogging.
Long Shank permits deep penetration with increased visibility.
Throw-Off Ring prevents fluid from operating area entering the handpiece.
The Toller Tapered Bur features a 3 bladed reverse twist to the cutting edge to prevent the flute clogging up. This blade design also draws the irrigation fluid to the bur tip where it is needed most.
● The longer slim neck allows deeper penetration with increased visibility for the clinician.
● The throw off ring prevents fluid from backing into the handpiece.
● Tungsten Carbide neck ensures optimum strength, performance and durability.
Using a bur rather than a chisel to remove impacted molars reduces the post-operative swelling and discomfort. Avoids the possibility of lingual nerve damage and preserves bone structures.
Recommended technique
It is recommended to use both Tapered Fissure and the Round Head Burs as a pair in conjunction to achieve a successful outcome.
When sectioning molars (the process of dividing up the tooth) start from the middle of the tooth;
1. Use the Toller 2.3mm Round Bur to make a hole in the centre of the molar.
2. Change burs to the Taper Fissure Bur, insert into the hole in the centre and work outwards using a ‘pistoning’ technique together with continual irrigation to ensure the flutes of the burs are kept clean and the cutting is efficient taking care not to apply too much pressure laterally. Deviation from this technique may result in the bur breaking.
Reverse Twist of blades draws irrigating fluid to extreme cutting tip.
3. Insert a Couplands Elevator into the fissures created – then rotate the elevator to split the tooth for ease of removal.
N.B;
Use of the irrigation prevents both the overheating of the bur, structures and also the clogging of the bur flutes.
DO NOT;
1. Use the Tapered Bur to drill a downward hole in the molar - this has the potential to break the bur as it is not designed to cut on the end - only on the side!
2. Use the Round Head Bur to make the side cut - this results in the slot being too wide not allowing the Coupland Elevator tip enough purchase to twist and split the molar into two sections for easier removal.
