THE TERM IN BRIEF

Resilience. Creativity. Imagination. These three values have been the driving forces in the second half of the Spring term. Under the auspices of our librarian, Mrs Smith, boys and staff engaged with joy and gusto as World Book Day descended upon MTP. We enjoyed dressing up, speaking to visiting authors, and discovering new imagined worlds. Creativity was to the fore as Year 6 wowed us with their riotous (and messy!) production of Bugsy Malone. Meanwhile, our U11 Hockey players produced our best season ever, winning the IAPS Plate at the national finals.

WORLD BOOK DAY

We do love reading. And we love dressing up. So, World Book Day is one of our favourite entries in the school calendar

HOCKEY CHAMPIONS

Our U11 Hockey squad qualified for the IAPS national hockey finals. We’re delighted to tell you they won the Plate competition. This ranks them in the top 10 schools in the UK. The team are undefeated in their normal school fixtures and won the UCS Sevens tournament

We applaud and salute their remarkable achievements this season. Photos below show the team at the national finals.

Boys who represented the U11 Hockey squad also made up the majority of the team that also won the Chesham Prep U11 football tournament. They were reawarded school colours for their hockey achievements, and a separate set for winning the football tournament. We aim to create all-round performers, who can excel across different sporting disciplines.

YEAR 3 RUGBY DEVELOPMENT

Year 3 enjoyed a rugby development day on the final full week of term. It was great to see lots of parental support, while the boys showed improved spatial awareness and team collaboration. We learn best when we learn together.

AT THE MANOR

Where curiosity thrives

Reception had a lovely time learning about the weather and how unpredictable it can be. We learnt all about the seasons and then for ‘observe the weather day’ we went

We enjoyed World Book Day, getting dressed up as our favourite characters from books we have read. See over for some of our costumes!

CHARITY

We have been supporting Marie Curie by wearing daffodils to raise funds for those needing end of life care Here's our charity rep, out and about selling pins for boys and staff to wear.

MUSIC

We develop confidence by making sure our boys make the most of our fantastic theatre.

A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed a wonderful music recital from boys preparing for their ABRSM exams. We were delighted to see a boy from Year 2 playing his guitar in front of an audience of 300. We build the whole person through creative expression.

Below is a video montage of the musicians in action.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

A big thankyou to all the boys and staff who entered this year ' s photography competition on the theme of "Energy". There were many excellent entries which have been on display here at school. Here are the winning top three entries.

In third place was a boy from 3D, with his photo of the energy created by the rapid movement of water. In second place was a pupil in 5 Curlews, with his 3-D printed portrait bust of the pioneer of engineering and electrical energy.

And in first place was a student in 7 Pipers with his light painting photo, ‘May the torch be with you ’ .

EXPLOSIVE LEARNING!

Years 1 and 2 had a day learning about rockets. All theory and no practice makes for a non-experiential experience Thankfully, our resident astrophysicist and Head of Science, Mr Greenish, was on hand to give the boys a whoosh of reality and the whiff of space. He launched several rockets skywards. Here’s a clip of rocket number one igniting. Stand well back.

AUTHORS GALORE

We have had a bunch of wonderful authors and illustrators visit since February.

Storyteller extraordinaire Pat Ryan kicked off Book Week. From nursery to Year 8, everyone was captivated by his folk stories, animal tales, and global narratives! Here’s a photo montage of Pat enthralling Year 5.

AUTHORS GALORE (2)

Our Year 3 & 4 boys spent time with amazing author Matt Oldfield. He's written over 50 sports books, including the award winning Unbelievable Football. We had a writing workshop with Matt, then read out our ideas. It was great to have a writer, in class, for the day! Shown is Matt with the younger pupils, as well as our Year 8 school librarians.

AUTHORS GALORE (3)

We were delighted to host Linda Flynn and Caroline Casali, author and illustrator of the wonderful book ‘Playing Together’. Boys in Years 1 and 2 heard the beautiful story read aloud by Linda. Then Caroline showed them how to make origami kites! It was a wonderful end to a magical book week!

ON SAFARI

Year 4 embarked upon an intrepid safari adventure. We didn’t have time to reach the plains of Africa, but we did get as far as Woburn Safari Park. Here, the boys learnt about ecological and conservation matters, while observing some of the natural world’s finest animals at close quarters. We are an Eco School, so teaching our boys to preserve the world we have been gifted is a cause close to our heart.

MAKING HIS MOVE

Chess is an incredibly popular activity at MTP. We start at an early age and offer a range of coaching options for many boys.

We’re delighted to report that a Year 4 pupil has captained the U9 Hertfordshire team, in the Inter-Association Championship (East Zone). He and his team managed to secure a spot in the national finals, taking place in April. He’s also ranked in the top 50 players in the UK for his age. Before we know it, he’ll be the reigning king of the board!

BUGSY MALONE

Year 6 produced a spellbindingly brilliant production of Bugsy Malone. Performing on a set that could have been borrowed from the West End, the boys sang and acted with humour and pathos. It was the perfect way to bring the curtain down on the Spring term.

WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN

Meet the latest recruits to the MTP fold - a family of Egyptian geese.

They’ve taken up residence and can be seen parading around the sports field.

With cricket season appraching, boys and coaches are hoping this is the closest they’ll get to a duck, or any other type of fowl.
