právě jste otevřeli publikaci vydanou u příležitosti konání výstavy Slavné evropské housle – Praha 2009.
You have just opened a book published on the occasion of the exhibition “Famous European Violins – Prague 2009”.
Bylo mi pět let, když mě můj dědeček vzal poprvé do houslařské dílny. Připadal jsem si jako v pohádce a toužil si na všechny ty krásné housle zahrát. Fascinoval mě jejich úchvatný tvar, vůně houslařského laku, a když jsem zjistil, že ty 300 let staré také hrají... Začal jsem chodit do školy, denně cvičil na housle, často se do té pohádky vracel, a po čase zjistil, že mám chronickou houslovou závislost.
I was 5 when my grandfather took me to a violin maker’s workshop. I felt as if I was in a fairy tale and wanted to play all the beautiful violins. I was fascinated by their magnificent shapes and the smell of the violin varnish. I realised that these 300 year old instruments could be admired but also played. I started to go to school, practised the violin daily, often came back to that fairytale shop and soon discovered that I had a chronic dependence on violins.
Historie mistrovských houslí je spojena s lidskými příběhy a osudy, proto jsou následující stránky nejen o faktech, ale také o pocitech. Všechny zobrazené nástroje pocházejí ze soukromých sbírek, na řadu z nich se stále intenzivně hraje a koncertuje. Nesmírně si vážím všech přátel, kteří mně své housle či smyčce na tuto výstavu zapůjčili, chtěl bych jim opravdu ze srdce poděkovat, neboť díky nim mohla vzniknout také tato nadčasová knížka. Vím, že většina z vás byla na výstavě obrazů, soch, grafiky či architektury, takže knižní publikace či katalogy těchto uměleckých směrů dobře znáte. Ale svět unikátních houslí je stále ještě hodně zahalený tajemstvím, i když je také nedílnou součástí vývoje značné části lidstva. Věřte mi, opravdu stojí za poznání. Právě proto si moc přeji, abyste do něj nahlédli a nasáli tu úžasnou atmosféru takřka dokonalých uměleckých děl, na která se dá dívat i hrát. Každý z vás už určitě slyšel o slavných italských houslích, ale pro mnohé z vás bude velkým překvapením, že i Praha má neuvěřitelně bohatou houslařskou historii, která je navíc propojena s dalšími evropskými zeměmi, městy i městečky.
The history of master violins is connected with real people’s lives and destinies and that is why the following pages are not only about facts but also emotions. All the depicted instruments come from private collections; some are still frequently played. I greatly appreciate all my friends who lent me their violins or bows for this exhibition and I would like to express my gratitude because it is thanks to them that this timeless book could have been made. I know that most of you have visited exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, modern graphics, architecture, so you are familiar with books or catalogues of these types of art. However, the world of unique violins is still a bit of a mystery, even though definitely a part of the development of mankind. And trust me it is really worth learning more about. Therefore, I would like you to feast your eyes and soak up the splendid atmosphere of these almost perfect works of art which can be both seen and played. Each of you has surely heard about famous Italian violins but many of you might be surprised to learn that even Prague has a rich history of violin making connected with other European countries, cities and towns.
