he Burry Stander Bike Park was officially opened on his parents’ smallholding in Umtentweni on Saturday 4th January. The function followed on a memorial service and bike ride at the spot in Marine Drive, Shelly Beach, where he lost his life on 3 January last year. It was attended by several senior officials from the cycling fraternity, and provincial and local government. The proceedings started with a small gathering of guests at the Burry Garden, where he is buried, and where a wreath was laid by acting KZN Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi and other dignitaries. Port Shepstone Lions manned a watering station along the new cycling route which was very well received by all involved. Our grateful appreciation to Lions Andre Beneke, Kenny Rolfe, Kevin Ross and Nico De Jong, together with Lion Lady Bev Rolfe, Chrissy Wilson and Warwick Ross for making this project possible.
