Pitching Stats

2012-13 SIGNEES Victor Cole  Memphis, Tenn.  LHP Posted a 10-0 record with a .56 ERA and 110 strikeouts as a high-school junior, setting the school record for wins, ERA and strikeouts. Cole, a Memphis-native, is a two-time all-district and all-state honoree. When he is not on the mound Cole takes to the outfield. Cole’s father, Victor Cole, is a former major-leaguer with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Alex Gunn  Clinton, Miss.  LHP Gunn, a 6-foot-4 southpaw, posted a 7-1 record and a 2.42 earned run average in his first season at Hinds Community College. In 42.2 innings pitched, Gunn had two complete games, one shutout, and struck out 33 batters and walked just six batters. Gunn was named to the All-State Second Team by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC).

Xander Helton  Knoxville, Tenn.  RHP/INF Helton, who saw action at first and third bases and pitched for the Rams, led GCA to a 21-7 record as a junior in 2010. Helton recorded a 3-1 record and boasted a 1.08 ERA on the mound, while batting .408 and firing a single home run throughout the campaign. Helton is a relative of current Colorado Rockies five-time MLB all-star first baseman Todd Helton.

BOUNCE BACK The Tigers bounced back from their first loss of the season with an 11-2 victory on Saturday over SIU-Edwardsville. Memphis is 85-132 under head coach Daron Schoenrock following a loss. After a 9-32 record in the 2005 season following a loss, the Tigers are 76-100. In the last three seasons, the U of M is 31-25 following a loss.

Colin Lee  Memphis, Tenn.  LHP Lee, a 6-foot-2, 210 pound southpaw, has pitched over 120 innings in three seasons with Houston High School with a 2.76 earned run average. Lee, coached by former Tiger Lane McCarter, has struck out nearly one batter an inning as he has totaled 117 strikeouts entering his senior season. Lee pitched a complete game as a sophomore and carries a 13-4 record.

UP NEXT The Tigers hit the road for the first time in 2012 with SEC games at Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Memphis visits Ole Miss on Tuesday for a 3 pm contest and travels to Mississippi State on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match up.

Jake Little  Franklin, Tenn.  INF The Franklin (Tenn.) High School product was an AllDistrict and All-District Tournament Team selection in 2011. The 6-foot-1 infielder hit .473 last season for the Rebels at Franklin High. Little had 10 home runs, 48 RBI and 32 extra-base hits. Little posted an impressive .991 slugging percentage and struck out just four times in 110 at-bats. In postseason play, Little was 10-for-21 (.476). Little played with current Tigers Ford Wilson and Dylan Toscano in summer baseball for the Franklin Outlaws. Conner Porter  Newburgh, Ind.  RHP Porter posted a 1.10 earned run average in 16.1 innings pitched in his first season at Olney Central Junior College. The 6-foot-8, 215 pound, right-hander pitched 41 innings with a 3.07 ERA in his career at Castle High School (Newburgh, Ind.). Porter recorded 49 strikeouts in those 41 innings pitch and had a 5-2 record with two saves.

Jon Reed  Tulsa, Okla.  RHP Reed transferred to Walters State after one season at the University of Tennessee where he pitched 41.2 innings and posted a 5.40 earned run average. Drafted in the 21st round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, Reed was ranked the No. 1 pitching prospect in Oklahoma and No. 2 player overall. Finished Tulsa Memorial high school career with an earned run average of 1.80, and was also a star at the plate, batting above .400.
