SETTING THE SCENE • Memphis (8-5) closes its three-game homestand at FedExForum on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when it hosts in-state rival Tennessee (7-6). The game, to be televised on Fox Sports Tennessee (FSTN), is slated for a 7 p.m. (CT) start. • The Tigers were not ranked or listed in the Also Receiving Votes category of both national polls, which were released Jan. 2. Tennessee is not ranked. • Memphis enters Wednesday’s in-state showdown after back-to-back home wins over Robert Morris 64-47 on Dec. 29 and Charlotte 67-58 on Dec. 31. Prior to those two victories, the Tigers had dropped three of their last four contests. • Memphis returns all five starters and 10 letterwinners from last year’s squad. • Tennessee enters Wednesday’s encounter on a four-game winning streak. The Volunteers posted wins over UNC Asheville, East Tennessee State, The Citadel and Chattanooga in their current streak. • Tennessee last dropped a game on Dec. 14, a 71-65 setback at the College of Charleston.
