Sounds of summer

Join us as the city comes alive with a series of unforgettable musical performances.

Throughout spring and summer, Western Australia’s best singers, songwriters and musicians come together to create a live soundtrack just for you.

Each performance gives us something new to love about music. Warm afternoons and still summer nights spent with family and friends. Relaxing together, singing, dancing, finding new sounds to enjoy or maybe reconnecting with familiar favourites. Settle in for a season of music in Melville.

SONGS FOR FREEDOM

Discover the songs of an ageless culture and an ancient country. Songs for Freedom is a powerful performance written by the Ieramugadu (Roebourne) community on Ngarluma country. An unforgettable evening of song and story on the Derbarl Yerrigan Swan River, it’s a celebration of the music, people and country of the Pilbara.

Created in collaboration with Big hART, City of Melville and Perth Festival, and directed by Grammy-award-winning artist Lucky Oceans, Songs for Freedom offers heartfelt messages of freedom and hope from the Pilbara mob, in their own words.

This year, Songs for Freedom is accompanied by Punkaliyarra: Sister in Law Dreaming Story, a new theatre work born on Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi country and presented at Yagan Mia Wireless Hill.

TENDER IS THE NIGHT

Tender is the Night transforms venues, and this season Goolugatup Heathcote for a series of intimate, one-of-a-kind concerts.

Every performance features a suite of songs by renowned local singer songwriters, with string scores written by classical composers and performed by the Tender Strings Quartet. Immerse yourself in the work of each performer and the beautiful arrangements of ten different composers, as each piece comes together for the very first time in front of a live audience.

Bring your own cushions, rugs, and a picnic to enjoy during the show (or grab your favourite takeaway). A magical evening to share with family and friends, Tender is the Night is a unique experience of the joy of making music.

MELVILLE SUMMER MUSIC

From the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan Swan River to Centennial Park, Melville Summer Music brings live music into your backyard with a program of unforgettable free concerts across the city.

Fill your summer with music by local and touring musicians across a wide range of styles – blues, pop, indie, folk, rock, bluegrass, funk and soul.

Melville Summer Music is a fantastic family event, with plenty of space for picnics and a hand-picked selection of Perth’s favourite food trucks. With eleven dates across five beautiful Melville parks and reserves, Melville Summer Music is a great way to rediscover live music in the city you love.

GOOLUGATUP SOUNDS

Being able to experience this music together with the art in the gallery is something special. It’s really memorable for people – they connect with the music in a way they might not at a traditional concert.
