SPRING FORWARD PART 2:
WRITTEN BY: COACH MEL
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. IF YOU NEVER LEAVE WHERE YOU ARE AT NOW, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT LIES AHEAD.
Ponder this……when you see someone who has lost weight and gotten in better shape what is the first thing you ask them? “What are you doing differently? You look so good!” What does this tell us? That change of routine reaps more results than staying put ever did. We all need to be more open to trying something new. We are all so set in our ways. I want to tell you a story about my own growth.
I remember being a member of a big box gym for years. I would go to 1-2 classes a day 7 days a week.
I was so loyal to the gym and did every challenge that they offered. I would lose 20 pounds during a challenge, just to gain it back. I made lots of friends and connections at the gym, but one day I asked my twin sister Melanie this question……….”Have you ever noticed that the people who have been coming here for years, along with us, look the same?” Her answer was YES! We were maintaining our weight, but never losing more. We were pretty fit, but we could be "fitter." That was my wake-up call! That is when I decided to cancel my box gym membership and hire a personal trainer.
I did what everyone does right? You are correct! I joined a smaller gym and hired a personal trainer. I thought back then that was the answer to all my problems. I quickly asked my trainer Bo, whom I refer to as my brother from another Mother; "what do I eat now?" He gave my information to someone who I believe was a nutritionist or dietician and he came back and said “you’re good.” Mind you this was over 20 years ago. I was super disappointed and thought to myself, If I “was good” I wouldn’t still be overweight. I decided from that day forward that if I ever went into the same industry I would be “everything.” I feel like exercise and nutrition should go hand in hand.
Together they are “dynamite” and separately they are fire and water. As a side note, my brother was an amazing trainer and we are still friends to this day.
What I experienced over 20 years ago was that no one in my area was “everything.” I have spent the last 20 years researching and educating myself first and foremost to help ME! I later became a personal trainer, nutritionist, chef, food prep coach, food shopping expert, marathon coach, and magazine publisher, and we also have our own Podcast. I know this may seem a little “extreme” to most, but hear me out…………………..
When I sign up a client I don’t have to “farm” them out. I was just telling my twin sister Melanie that when I had my brick-and-mortar studio I charged $600-$800/month for personal training and nutrition coaching. Hearing this makes MelFit sound like a steal right? We are truly a “one-stop shop.” I am so multifaceted and I prefer to be “everything.” I am so happy to offer affordable plans that can help clients reach their goals and maintain them forever. I have eliminated all excuses because I teach clients how to cook, shop, and offer meal plans that have the proper amount of calories and macros figured out for them.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” This famous quote was written by Albert Einstein.
