Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday Arrangements
Sunday 8th November is Remembrance Sunday, and it will come as no surprise that the COVID-19 pandemic means that things will look different this year. Following consultation with representatives of the Royal British Legion and the Army Cadets, and with the utmost concern for the health and safety of the communities we live in, members of the public are asked not to gather at the War Memorial, or in the area surrounding it, whilst the Act of Remembrance takes place. The Act of Remembrance will still be carried out on behalf of the village community by the Parish Priest, as well as representatives of Service Veterans, the Army Cadets and the Parish Council. There will be no service in All Saints' Church immediately after the morning Act of Remembrance in Melbourn. Services will still take place at 8.00am in Holy Trinity, Meldreth (Said Eucharist), and at 5.30pm in All Saints', Melbourn (Requiem Eucharist for Remembrance Sunday). Members of the public are of course still very welcome to place wreaths and poppy crosses at Meldreth War Memorial, but are asked not to do so between 09.15am and 10.00am on 8th November. Should you wish to place a wreath or a poppy cross, please be aware that you will still need to keep social distance, and not to gather in groups of more than six. Similar arrangements are in place for Melbourn. This has been a very difficult decision to make, and I hope very much that you will understand the reasons behind it and our concern for people’s health and safety at this very worrying time. It goes without saying that I very much hope that 2021 will see us marking Remembrance Sunday in a more familiar fashion. With my every good wish.
