On Tuesday 11th January we had the pleasure of opening a new Rainbows Girlguiding Unit in Meldreth. Rainbows is a fun and exciting programme for girls aged 5-7. It provides girls with the opportunity to develop self-confidence, build friendships, learn new things and have fun. This is done through a variety of activities including arts and crafts, getting in touch with nature, playing games and much more. During our first unit meeting, the girls took part in an opening ceremony where they formed a circle and all held part of a rainbow coloured ribbon. Cheers erupted as the Unit Leader, Marigold, cut the ribbon and declared the unit open. Throughout the rest of the session, the girls had lots of fun getting to know each other through a series of songs and games. Singing and dancing to ‘Old MacDonald had a Fish Farm’ was a highlight. His aquatic residents included starfish, crabs, sharks, jellyfish, dolphins and pufferfish! The Rainbows’ leaders have planned a busy term of activities such as, rock painting (look out for these around the village), charity challenges, transforming traditional tales, thinking about helpful people, investigating how to make repairs, plus much more. If you would like to find out more about Girlguiding please visit the website www.girlguiding.org.uk. This is also where you can register your daughter to join a Rainbows group. We already have a small waiting list for the Meldreth Unit and would encourage children to be registered as early as possible to help them get a place close to their 5th birthday. Children can be registered at any age. We look forward to sharing further updates on our unit in future editions of Meldreth Matters. Marigold, Snowdrop, Buttercup & Primrose Rainbows Leaders
