CLEAN AIR Our main goal is to purify polluted, smog air into clean, pure air. The sustaineble development goals we’ve working on are sustainable cities and communities, climate action and life on land.

BIODIVERSITY
SUSTAINABILITY
The concrete patterns are suitable for plant growth so we are creating more biodiversity. Concrete is good for moss growth, and the green around it will keep it fresh looking. This will attract many insects, such as bees. Birds will get tempted as well on more peaceful hours.
It is suitable for every roundabout and can be compiled as extensively as possible with only 2 basic components, according to own taste and budget.
SAFETY A study showed that the monuments on a roundabout have a positive effect on road safety, because the cars slow down for enjoying the monument by looking at it.
PSYCHOLOGICAL The climate-helping products have a great impact on the psychological factor.

DEFINING
THE PROBLEM FROM RESEARCHES Many people live in highly populated cities with a lot of traffic issues. After analysing a pollution map made by the Belgian government, it’s noticeable that roundabouts are responsible for a lot of local air pollution. They often are located in highly dense populated area’s in cities. When arriving, cars have to slow down in order to enter the roundabout safely, which is a direct cause for air pollution.

As you can see, the roundabout is overpolluted. Certainly the areas where the cars slow down to enter the roundabout.
Many roundabouts are lost spaces, because these spaces are not effectively used.

HOW IT WORKS
Air purifiying process
Airpal is very easily to assemble, basic pre foundation is installed in a dug pit. The cubicles are stacked on top of each other and the filters are installed in place. The cubicles connect easily due to their modular design. The foundation and filters are in a dark colour absorbing as much heat to enhance the draft effect. The tower itself is out of white concrete to keep the chimney cool enough. Smog is a thick heavy warm layer that creates a higher pressure at the bottom. The cold air higher and the wind create a lower pressure and thus create a draft that sucks the smog into the filters.

STACK EFFECT
Stack effect or chimney effect is the movement of air into and out of buildings, chimneys, flue-gas stacks, or other containers, resulting from air buoyancy. Buoyancy occurs due to a difference in indoor-to-outdoor air density resulting from temperature and moisture differences.
