The development of this massing allows for a focus on the East/West orientation, directing the church and chapel while providing views and shading. The 1 3 2 development of the interiors and apertures will utilize varying ceiling heights and unique spatial sequence to evoke a spiritual quality within the space.

Church Perspective 20

Cloister and Garden levels, as well as the monk’s private residences all utilize open air circulation as a means to create connection to nature and opportunity for reflection. The system of precast concrete, steel framing, glass, and metal panels create a method for articulation and various levels of porosity along the facade.

CENTER

THE CLIENT Flavia La Rocca is originally from Rome, Italy, where she began designing and started her personal brand. Now based out of Milan, flavialaroca’s concept is to propose a new attitude towards clothing. Entire collections are built on modular concept. The clothes are composed of interchangeable modules that, through the use of hiden zipers, can be detached and matched again to create diferent combinations.

THE CONCEPT The concept for this project is derived from the process of sustainably sourcing natural materials, recyled dyes, and dying textiles by the piece, in order to the desired colorwa.y This is the inspiration driving the geometr,y colors and materials used in the project, along with the modular forms of the brands garments and their natural inspiration.

THE OBJECTIVE Designing around the existing machinery in the Ex Cartiera Antica, this space will serve as a discussion piece surounding sustainability in fashion and the community of Rome. Focusing on the process of dyeing materials, this research center will allow the public community grasp the importance of ethical sourcing in fashion.

THE CLIENT The Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, also known as ISPRA, is a public legal entity that performs scientific and technical research functions over several environmental sectors, such as water environments, habitats, ecosystem, biodiversity, as well as to the protection of nature.

THE CONCEPT Inspired by the umbrella pine trees seen around Rome, the space focuses on vertical space and preservation. This will be implemented through the preservation of the natural environment, the existing building, and of used books. By utilizing the vertical space, the design will create opportunities for exploration, learning, and leisure.

THE OBJECTIVE The various levels of the platforms, the tectonic structural elements throughout the space, as well as the bookshelves lining the existing walls all work to create an emphasis on verticality as seen in the inspiration for this concept. The variety of levels also creates room for expansion of the program and allows for the client to connect their research to the community in Flaminio.

THE CLIENT The client of this project is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This foundation leads six divisions in creating equality, public health, and global development. This design will implement a workplace for the needed divisions in Tehran, Iran and will adhere to client and public needs.

THE CONCEPT The inspiration for the space comes from Classical Persian Dancing, and the angular movements these dancers create. Abstracting that form into consistent angular geometries creates the design inspiration for the lighting scheme, ceiling features, and overall space plan.

THE OBJECTIVE The goals of this space are to enhance work life balance and create stimulating environments for the employees. The implementation of angular geometr,y contrasting colors and lighting effects will create interest and visual distinction between spaces and departments. Through design focused on stimulation and rhythm, the workplace will provide adequate spaces for diferent levels of workload.
