PEACE ANTHEM FOR LINGAWDUWA On its first two editions, LingawDuwa stood up for a cause that was relevant to the participants. In 2013, during the opening ceremonies Norman Gayo received the total donations raised as financial assistance to his family over the death of Leah while giving birth to their child. In 2014, the participants paid tribute to Blessie Gotingco who was murdered as she walked home from work. On November 13, 2015, terrorists struck four locations in Paris resulting in 129 killed while 433 people were brought to hospitals 80 of whom were described as critically injured. The entire civilized world was shocked and saddened by the murders of innocent civilians. The condemnation of the beastly actions was swift; while the outpouring of sympathy and condolences overwhelming. In its little way, LingawDuwa will pause for a 1-minute prayer for those who died. This will then be followed by the rendition of the anthem, “A Song of Peace” by emerging artist Kayth Alex and T-Kids (or TawagAwit Kids). Composed by Theresa Jennings, the song is a favourite choice among children during programs advocating peace. The first verse tells of a child’s longing for peace, ”If I could write a magic song that ev'ryone could sing/I would write of love, of hope and joy, and things that peace could bring./And when we sang my magic song, all hate and war would cease/If I could write a magic song, I'd write a song of peace.//” Other causes supported this year are: Zero-Trash Zone for a tidy and earth-friendly venue; and Earth Action Trust that shall sell handcrafted bags made from recycled materials. LingawDuwa will be held on November 21, 2015. The parade will begin at 8:30am followed by the opening ceremonies when the peace anthem will be sang. Twelve tribus will compete in indigenous Filipino games starting at 9:30am. During the lunch break. MasterChef NZ runner-up Leo Fernandez will talk about his experiences in the reality show and prepare one recipe. The games continue in the afternoon and should end at 4:00pm with the awarding and closing ceremonies.

GUEST EDITORIAL The Route of Peace in a Bloodied Trail The terror never ends. The trail of blood has encircled the world and led to France again on November 13. Paris became a target as terrorists orchestrated a series of bombings and shootings that resulted in the death of at least 128 people with about 180 others reported injured. Five separate locations were the targets of the attacks with the Bataclan concert venue accounting for at least 80 dead. The US rock group Eagles of Death Metal was performing in a sold out concert in the 1,500-seat hall. Paris has yet to get over the Charlie Hebdo killings where Islamist gunmen murdered 18 people in a span of three days in January 2015. And now this? French President Francois Hollande, described the killings "a horror" and promised a "merciless" fight against terrorism. Initial reports claim that one of the gunmen in the Bataclan concert venue was overheard saying: "It's the fault of Hollande, it's the fault of your president, he should not have intervened in Syria". Syria, as we know, has become a battle zone for some time as its president Bashar al-Assad continues to hold on to power and pound upon rebels. As a result, the civilians caught in between have crossed the borders to seek refuge in hospitable countries. In September, President Hollande said France would accept 24,000 Syrians over the next two years. There is now a sense of wariness among countries that have accepted refugees from Syria. Many ask the question, “How sure are we that there are no terrorists embedded among those seeking asylum?” The answer: There is no guarantee. The civilised world knows that it has responsibility over peoples who are victims of war, terrorism and oppression. It will not allow suffering especially for the elderly and the children. As we advocate for peace, the peoples of the world must in the strongest terms condemn terrorism. We must not cower in fear. We must continue to tend to the helpless and vulnerable. We must pursue the route of peace along its bloodied trail. To the people of Paris, we say, ‘Stay Strong’. (Reprinted with permission from BAYANIZ)

A SONG OF PEACE (Theresa Jennings)

If I could write a magic song that ev'ryone could sing, I would write of love, of hope and joy, and things that peace could bring. And when we sang my magic song, all hate and war would cease. If I could write a magic song, I'd write a song of peace. Chorus: One song for all of us One song could bring us peace. One song could make a miracle for all of us. A song of peace With just one song, one magic song that ev'ryone could sing, we could sing of love, of hope and joy, and things that peace could bring. And when we sang our magic song, all hate and war would cease. With just one song, one magic song, the world could fill with peace.
