■ There are no active cases of Coronavirus in Murrindindi Shire, as we go to press.
■ Snobs Creek hatchery facility, near Eildon, is undergoing a $1.2 million revitalisation. Victorian Fisheries Authority CEO Travis Dowling announced the project on Monday (Aug. 31). “The Snobs Creek redevelopment is the first major upgrade at the site since 2000, with old and redundant buildings to be demolished and the remaining core complex renovated to provide a modernised workplace for more than 20 people. “The works will create valuable space to further increase fish production at Snobs Creek so more Murray cod can be stocked into fisheries across the state.”
The ‘active’ status has been removed from the nine cumulative cases listed late Monday against the Shire by the Department of Health and Human Services. Nearby Whittlesea has 1173 cases (142 active).
Yarra Ranges Shire - inlcuding Lilydale, Healesville, Warburton and Yarra Glen - has 249 (22). Mitchell Shire, which includes Kilmore, Broadford and Seymour has 85 cases, 15 of them active. Nillumbik had 1331 (11). Mansfield has 10 (1), Strathbogie has 2 (0). Monday saw the reporting of 41 new deaths, 33 of them from previous weeks.

■ Local government areas in eastern and south-east Melbourne, representing two million residents, have joined to call for urgent action to end homelessness. The Councils yesterday (Tues.) formed a collective to press for more social housing for the region’s most vulnerable community members. The local councils are Casey, Cardinia, Frankston, Greater Dandenong, Knox, Kingston, Manningham, Monash, Maroondah, Mornington Peninsula, Whitehorse, Yarra Ranges, plus Bayside. “A safe home is fundamental for recovery and safety,” said Cr Stuart James, Mayor of Monash. “Everyone deserves to have a roof over their head, a door they can lock and a place where they feel secure and safe. A place to call home. This is a fundamental and basic right.” The councils say that homelessness is more likely to affect those most vulnerable including women and children fleeing family violence, people with a disability, people living with a mental health condition, people living in poverty, and marginalised groups. The councils intend to work with State and Federal Governments.
