● Daniel Andrews ■ “Are we right to go?”, Premier Daniel Andrews might say. The Victorian Government, 10 days ago, made announcements for the third round of assistance to some businesses across the state. Eligible companies (and there are many who are not) were asked to hang on until last Fridayto make their latest application. The Andrews Government was true to form and the Business Victoria website did not have the application forms available until very late in the day.

Waiting, waiting

● Vicki Ward ■ When the first round of business grants became available there were horrible delays. Our small company reached out to Eltham MLA Vicki

with Ash Long, Editor Previous winner, Victoria’s best local r eporter

Ward, and Yan Yean MLA Danielle Green, for assistance and advocacy. We did not even get a word of acknowledgement from either of the Labor politicians, let alone any assistance. In our case, just like so many other businesses, the Round 2 payment has yet to arrive, let alone the Round 3 remittances.

■ Jaala Pulford, Labor’s Minister for Everything, has been reportedly described by the Premier as the Government’s ‘best retail politician’. That is probably so. But she put in a shocker of a performance last week in State Parliament when she was asked to justify the Government’s lack of assistance for sole traders.

Woe for traders

Memory from 68

● Jaala Pulford

■ Earlier this month, The Local Paper published a photo of a young who we thought was Rodney Crawford, late of Mendip Rd, Reservoir, and St Andrews. We were pleased to receive a call from Maree, who was ma-

● Rodney Crawford married to Rod, as well as from Rory, one of his sons. Yes indeed, the photo was of Rod, appearing in the Christmas episode of the Homicide TV series. We were able to put the Crawfords on the right track to order a copy of The Four Wise Men episode ... from Crawford Productions, of course.

Outside dining

■ ManninghamCouncil issued one of its rare media releases on Monday (Sept. 21) to inform that is making it possible for eligible traders to expand their outdoor dining footprint with a new permit. “We’re committed to cutting the redtape and making it easy as possible for business to extend their current outdoor dining onCouncil footpaths.

Word of advice

■ One aspiring local Moreland politician took to giving a blast of offensive language to the Editor last weekend. There is an old saying used by 3AW breakfast host Ross Stevenson: “Never argue with a man who orders ink by the barrel load and paper by the tonne.”

● Normally, the AFL Grand Final would be being played at the MCG on the last Saturday in September. The football grounds of my youth were Preston, Coburg, Fitzroy and Richmond. This photo shows the East Preston tram in Brunswick St, near the Lions’ ground. Back in those days it was common place for men to hang on to whatever they could to secure their tram ride. No-one called them hoons.
